chained down the charger

well I have been having problem withthe fan hitting the air shroud i fabbed for the alluminum radiater.I didn't think my motor mounts were that week, :scratchchin:So i got out some 5/16"chain and chained the motor down to the frame
fired it up put her in gear and torque up the chassis and no more hitting.
well i put it down a little farther and she lit em up in the garage this car hasn't been able to do a power brkae the hole time i have had it.I guess i will have to see if she will do it on the road now

i have a buddy with a 70 that had a problem with breaking one motor mount so he finally took his dads advise and chained it....still there to this day...i guess it's an old school racing trick

yeah its definatly an old hot rod trick.I didn't really want to do it,but hey when you can't get a new mount right now it works.
now i need to go put in the new sending unit in the tank.

Had a chain on the 440 from the 70 I had.  Took it off after having the motor mount fixed.  Seemed to run fine with the chain, though.  Just didn't like the way it looked with the chain.

I like a slightly loose chain . you still get the smooth ride of the rubber with the chain providing a solid stop. it looks old school racing to me. it is kinda hard to see though. and I mounted mine on the front of the motor mount. if you didn't like the way it looked, you could mount it on the back and not see it at all.

in the vid. you can see the chain stoping the flex. it used to move about twice as far....watch the bread box

I was thinking about putting a chain in mine but thought about putting a solid mount just on the one side. Anyone else do the one or is solid on bothe better?

     I ripped the driver's side mount at the drag track. I went with a solid on the driver's side only and it was fine. I have since then gone to both solid mounts and don't notice any difference. Its really not that bad. I will probably only use solid mounts from now on. They are cheap, hold up, and don't cause any more noticable vibrations to speak of. I love mine.

  about the single solid mount. I'm thinking that's a bad idea. to me it sounds like a good way to pry the mount bolts out of the block. if you're going with solids, I'd go with two.

Jeez..What motor mounts are you guys using?  from my experience (not on a Mopar) saying solid mounts don't cause any extra vibration is like saying gear drives don't make noise. no offence intended. it's just that the last time I used a set, in my 72 maro. they were annoying as hell. which is why I used chain on the Charger. have they come up with some other material other than steel to replace the rubber?

I broke a pretty new motor mount on a freeway on ramp.

Changed the mount then chained it.

The chain isnt tight until you jump on it.

No more trouble.

Morepwr, I am using Morso mounts for my car. I have a .575 lift solid cam, 3500 stall converter and a 4:10 rear end. I took an old car owner for a ride in it and he was impressed on how it handles and didn't vibrate. I was using the driver's side only for awhile. It is the lifting side mount. The passenger side just compresses and doesn't seem to have the problem. Again, I am now using both solid mounts. I am serious when I say I don't notice much of any difference with the solid mounts. But then again, I have a total package that works VERY well together. I wish you were close so I can let you drive it. Many are surprised.
