The guy's a genius for what he has pulled off here and is laughing all the way to the bank. I agree that he needs a new makeup person but all in all I think he is doing a positive thing by perhaps opening some peoples eyes that are watching the show. Not to mention the wack jobs that are on his show.

I think the Dr. Phil crowd consist of the following:

a)  50% watch because their lives are messed up and they need & heed the advise he offers.  That half of the audience probably needs professional help.

b) The other 50% watches to feel better about themselves - knowing that his guests are more screwed up than they are.  That half of the audience probably needs professional help more than the other.

You must admit that some of his guests are entertaining  :yesnod:
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

I think he is Jerry Springer for the middle class. :icon_smile_big:

He's a well-spoken guy with a firm grasp on the concept of pop psychology. That's about it.

Dude, did you just say that he needs new make-up?

I think Dave Letterman put it best when he referred to Dr.Phil as a $10 Quack.

Forza

The only Dr Phil Episode I thought was worth watching is when they had the creator of Bum Fights come on. He had shaved his head and grew a mustache to look like Dr. Phil. I thought it was fkn hilarious, too bad he didnt get to stay on the entire show  :'(

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The man motivated my Niece to lose over 100 pounds. She was on the show last year and when her husband came home on leave from Iraq, the show sent them to Hawaii for some special time together. It changed their marriage!
I can take or leave some of the stuff on the show,  but I believe he does help people. It doesn't matter to me how much money he makes.

Yes, but only since he already wears it and as ck1 said it makes him look ridiculous.  :icon_smile_big:

I'm sure he helps people, but again his voice and appearance gives me night mares...............wonder if I could get on the show and he helps me with my phobia of him looking scary some how..........maybe he will let me do a make over on him.......first step would be to send him to hair club for men and maybe a hunters outfit with a shot gun or something........he kinda looks like a bird hunter...................sorry I have a hard time being serious about anything ;)

Dr. Phil is a CBT/Reality based theorist who uses confrontational counseling techniques in order for his consumers to reflect upon their behavior rather than dismiss it.  He allows the audience to interact in a fashion that highlights the points that are needed for the consumer to come to realistic cognitions that will allow the concept of change to enter into their cognitive and behavioral patterns.  The whole concept of confrontation is to promote a pre-contemplation that change is attainable and realistic in the eyes of the consumers, who, up to this point, have been projecting their responsibility onto other avenues, people, or objects instead of themselves.

You may think he is a quack, but he is following sound psychological theory and interventions.

I used to watch him until this past year.  He's good 'shining the light' on people, but I got tired of watching the same seniarios. Some of the people he interviews are just plain pathetic. He does great motivating people who need help with their drug problems or weight issues and it is nice to see how he helps them finacially to get the help they need. I watch a little bit of his show the other day where he interviewed a couple who only been married 3 months. The husband beats on her and her 3 kids. The wife says she knows its wrong to be in that situation and a bad influence on her kids-- worried her sons will become beaters themselves or her daughter getting into relationships where abuse is "ok".  Says she on the brink of divorce, but wants to heal the relationship.   :image_294343:   I couldn't take it anymore and changed the channel.

show is gay, he just tells them what to do. Shit, many people know what to do but they just don't do it. It's all up to the person to make changes in their lives
