Is it the same as a big block 727 torque converter? or am I buying a new one?

There really is no small block 727 converter, BB's and SB's often use the exact same converter.

All 727 converters interchange as long as the input shaft spline count is the same.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Although if everything is torn apart, you may want to consider a new converter.  It's easier to change it now than later if you are planning any engine mods that could take advantage of a different one (I can't recall if you were doing more to the engine or not).

I'm running her stock this year, but next year the motor is comming out anyways. I'm still thinking about the combo so it's not an issue as of now.
