My dad is going through a divorce, and they're in the property phase.  Unfortunately, since he's paid for about half of the car, and his name is on the title for insuance puposes it's on the table  :-\  He says there's no way we'll lose it, but what I'm really worried about is him wanting to sell it since next year he'll have 2 kids in college and one in middle school.  Anyway, he wanted me to ask what it's worth.  (feel free to estimate conservatively)

Have it professionally appraised for the benefit of everyone. An apprasial is not that expensive and better than guesses.

Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

I am going through a divorce right now and my attorney listed my 93 Buick Skylark as my 15 year old daughter's. I gave it to her to learn to dirve in before I left. My attorney listed it as hers and is not part of the property. Even though its in my name for insurance reasons, it is still hers and on paper as hers. If you have your dad tell the attorney that, it might not get bothered with at all. It is common to give a car and leave in the parents name. Don't worry.

Yea, 4-5 k sounds about right - especially a non-original, non-numbers matching, exhaust system needing, and a 74 to boot. Nothing inherently wrong with 74s - just not worth as much as some earlier models.

I told my dad about that and he said he'll definately talk to his attorney and see if it can be taken off the table. Thanks!

I live in Ohio and that is what I have dealt with so far. I hope you have the same luck. Besides, your step mom, or who ever, should know its not your father's and should not even bother with it. If she is then she is the smallest person in the world. I real person would honorably leave alone what isn't theirs. Keep us informed. I believe all of us are interested in this one.

sell it to a family friend for 1000 bucks and give her 500 and say its gone.  And then wait 3 months and buy it back.  People do it all the time.  Dont let go of something you love.

The court will demand a bill of sale and the official date of separation. If the bill of sale is after the separation date then the car will be found, appraised and split for what it is worth. The courts see right through that anymore.

I'd definetly say 6k maybe more if I'd see it in person.  Nice car, my 74 better look at least that good when i'm done with it.

you'd kinda think so heh? the problem is that the car was ALWAYS getting under her skin and she thought it was outrageous i should have a cool car that young (i got it at 16) even though i put god knows how many hours and dollars into it on a high school and part time job schedule/budget.  We used to argue all the time ablout it and she was always telling my dad to sell it.  my dad is calling his attorney today, so i'll let you know what happens.  last I heard though, she was getting desperate and had hired a completely new attorney so now it'll get dragged out even longer.  we'll see...

I guess i didn't mention it earlier but she was my step mom.  my parents divorced when I was 2, and he'd been married to linda (step mom) for 13 years after that and then they split.

From what I've seen, probably around $4-7K.

That sucks! I will say from 5-6K IMO. Good luck! even if she was a step mom it cant be easy, lots of people to talk with here!

Forza

Man that really blows, step mom or not she should know it isnt right to put you and your dad in this position. As far as estimates go I'd say like the others have said which is in the area of 5-7k. Lemme know if you actually have to go threw with it, I'm not that far from ya.

good luck man, I'm only 18 but I've watched my parents go through 7 marriages and 6 divorces after this one (my mom likes marrying people...and then divorcing them)  so I guess all I can say is that when it's not the end of the world and everyone seems to come out ok...not great...but ok...

all the best

moparguy01

id probably try to get that car in your name if at all possible. Just because you never know what all happens.
