i need to get a driveshaft to finish off my 73.   It's got a 383/727 with the original 8 1/4 rear end.    How many spline yoke do i need....the 29 or the 25???  also what u joints 7260, or 7290.......and what's with the removal or non removable carrier  (like what's that mean??)...thanks for the help guys,

tecmopar

Your 8 1/4 is a non-removeable carrier, the 8 3/4 rear has the removeable, the 727 uses a 29 spline slip yoke and you probably have a 7260 yoke on the rear but measure it to be sure, the inside measurement is 2 1/8", if its 2 5/8 then its a 7290, good luck.

i don't suppose anyone knows the length i need, or even the correct way to measure (as far as compensating for the yoke and the u joints).  -also, will a driveshaft from a a833 fit a 727?  if they do, is there a newer car you can pull one off of and work for a 73??

What you need to do is measure from the end of the tailshaft housing, ( not including the seal ) to the face of the yoke, where the straps bolt to and deduct 3.5". This is your centerline to centerline lenght between the U-joints, good luck.
