Thinking about earlier this summer now that it is raining and cooler. One of my kids took this one
Who in their right mind would say

"The science should not stand in the way of this."? 

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us. 

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....

Do Balmain grubs taste like Morton Bay bugs?

watched a doco about them taking blue blood from them for purifying vaccines , they are huge .

Oh yeah Poly, crazy $$$. But at that level, its just a tax write off as are most of them  :icon_smile_big:
I get to work on a few, quite interesting, no pics though, not allowed, fair enough, they are privately owned vessels.

Was wondering what the sea urchins were...

Horseshoe crabs... older than dinosaurs.

I suppose they could be used that way :scratchchin:. They don't bite - but something about them always makes me hesitate before grabbing them.   

They come up to the beach to lay eggs on the full moon in June in the Delaware bay - thousands as far as you can see. 

That Balmain Bug is really neat. 


I'll add these too.  They are from last winter in a mangrove lagoon in the Florida Keys.  Upside down jellies. 

We are still rainy and cool.  Not good car weather.  Fall color like that pictured above doesn't make it as far south as I am and I definitely miss that.

Yes, they do resemble bicycle helmets at that.  I'll have to check out the web to see how large they are, can't tell from that pic.

We had the best winter weather, took the charger out plenty but spring is a bit of a mixed bag. Cold and wet yesterday and again today.

Well I googled the horseshoe crab and found it all very interesting. I'd never heard of it or seen one (even in a pic) before.
I found some good pics but as they weren't taken by me, I posted them in the "Hijack" thread. Check it out.
