Hey, anyone out there have any cool ideas for a memorable graduation party/event for our twin boys? They are graduating from high school on May 15th and we've had tons of fun b-day parties, but for graduation I want it to be a spectacular event. Any ideas are welcome. oh, and what in the heck do parents give their kids as far as a gift?

AKcharger is headed back home from Korea and will be here in Alaska on Monday. When you think of it, say a quick prayer for a safe flight for him. It's a long journey and I am very excited to see him again.

ROFL!!! That's a great comeback!! The college they are going to is only like 5 miles from home, so I have a feeling they will be living at home a bit longer.  I am still chuckling at your response!

As far as a gift.  I have no input, but you guys sound like great parents to want to do this for the boys.
I would think the roof over their heads and the fact that you will let them stay at home and go to college would be enough.  I know it's a deduction up until the early 20's so it's smart on your and "The Chief's" part as well.

I hope he has a safe flight home.

On another note, I couldn't help notice you said when "they" go to college.  Does this mean you have convinced your other son that college is the right way to go??

I didn't get anything special for graduating.  :bawling:  I think it would be a good idea to get them set up with an IRA or other investment account if they work part time while going to school.  You could be like a good company, and match their contributions up to a certain point too.  I'm only 25 and just getting started with this stuff, and really wish that I had started when I was 18, because I don't ever expect to get anything back from Social Security. :RantExplode:  They may not appreciate it now, but in 10 years when they already have a good chunk of change set aside for retirement they will be lightyears ahead of their friends.  Compound interest is awesome. :yesnod:

I second the IRA idea. Give them an early start. Financial security is the best possible gift you can give them.

How about you give them the house to themselves for a weekend and treat you and the Chief on a well deserved holiday, I bet they would know how to take advantage of that situation.

Heres one, just acknowledge it. Say congratulations, we're proud of you.

When i graduated from college (the first time) my parents didn't even say a word to me about graduating. no good job, no congrats, no we're proud of you, not a thing. and i lived with them for about a month or two after i graduated, so they had time to tell me (i was moving back to the area and hadn't found an apartment yet)

I didnt want a present, granted that is just me.

Might be worth taking that into consideration.

Congratulations to yours boys !!  :yesnod:
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

Strippers!!!!  :o

Alaskan strippers are not hot.

Alaskan women usually don't work at the strip clubs anyway. I've yet to see a sexy, thin native who can shimmy on a dance pole!! A few military wives work at the strip clubs off base.

Well, we did that last night... went to a hotel. Then I went to Korea in Dec and left the boys home alone. Then in June/July we're going to Carlisle, then Niagra Falls, then Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio, minus the boys. and then in Sept/Oct we're going to Disney World. We are no strangers to taking holidays; it helps keep our marriage strong.

I think we decided on just taking them out for a nice dinner. Since I sent out their announcements, checks from loved ones have been rolling in for them. We want them to save the money for books and supplies for college. I think it's a smart idea; they think it's mean, hoping we'd pay for everything. Sorry kiddos!

Oh, and Yes, Bill got home safely! :D  It's great having him back home.

As far as graduation gifts go, can't go wrong with cash. Thats what my parents did. My 21st b-day is on the 15th so I'll have a drink for your boys  ;D. I'd say Arthurs idea is the best, just make sure if they have a party to collect the car keys so no one drives.

Good luck with the graduation!

Im with the stripper thing.....

But really how about some dorm room stuff.... that is unless of course they are living at home.

moparsuebear

Well, AK and I just decided we'd make them each a $1,000 voucher to be used on supplies for college. I made them up using power point and they came out pretty nice, in my opinion. They will be happy. Then tonight after graduation, we'll take them out for dinner. (I tried posting the certificates here for your viewing pleasure, but they won't attach.)
