I am working on the door handle & lock linkages in my car and would like to know what I can use to replace the insulation around the rods.

Any suggestions?

Attached are a couple of photos.  Once of the rod itself and the other, a close up of the insulation.

Thanks in advance.

we use woven cloth wire loom, i think you can pick it up at a parts store but we got ours at an implement dealer.

Thanks.

Another question - is the only purpose of this loom to keep it from rattling around in there?

Yep, but if you dont use it,  it gets pretty noisey

:iagree: and also make sure you get the little loop back in the door that holds the rod kinda against the inner shell

Shakey, I bought some stuff off of ebay.  It was an asphalt based 1/4" fabric loom, looks to be the same stuff.  I got it to for the same application but haven't used it yet.  How much of that stuff is needed for each side?  I will have to look and see how much I have.  I looked on ebay but can't find the stuff right now although I have seen it for sale alot recently

I was going to powder coat mine hoping that it would take the metal to metal noise out of it.  The insulation is totally gone on one door and rotten on the other.
