what the hell is the tech spec core ? I have read something about WINDSOR, ORLEANS, BRISBANE etc... and what do I have to know about that when I have to choose a mother board ?

I have no idea what you're talking about, Nacho. :P
Computers?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

AMD went a little crazy after the XP line of Processors. when they came out with the 64bit processors the put the menory controller on the actual processor. this made the time it takes the processor to contact the memory extremly fast, but it also ment that it made it impossable to mix and match RAM and CPU. so they made a diffrent core, and socket for each of the diffrent memory controllers that way you couldn't mix and match the RAM-CPU combo. last year they came out with the AM2 socket, and desided to only offer one memory controller, so for the last year or so they have been almost standard. they might have diffrent cores still, as the updated the newer technology, but the socket and memory controller should be the same. there isn't an easy way to know what to buy, other then do a lot of research. i normaly pick the CPU i want, and then research waht RAM will work with it, then pick a Motherboard that will fit the CPU and RAM i've already picked out. its a pain in the A$$ but these days its just the way it is.

www.newegg.com normaly has a great selection on everything and has all the technical info in order to make it easy to pick out what you want to buy... but they have been changing their layout... so they might have made it harder to figure out what you want.

OK, I'm not still sure what you are talking about LOL...

I already got the smaller of the Dual Core series, AMD64 X2 3600+ and of course is AM2 what as far I know is socket 940. It does state WINDSOR core. what exactly does mean that.

and what do you know about FOXCONN motherboards... quality.

i know foxconn makes all the siockets these days... don't know much about their boards but would assume they are decent concidering they are a major manufacture.
check your mobo specs but i think some DDR2 800 will work well for you.

looks good. I checked that the DDR 800 is the correct mempry for that system. I have a 3800+ and its running great. you should be very happy with it.

I have a question about ATM, but that's for another thread.....

What do you need to know I used to set up ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) networks all the time.......

I can answer any questions on PNNI - I can break down the NSAP address for you. PVC's SVC's set them up for 4 years...........

woah? just DDRII 800 ? MB supports  533, 667 and 800. I found a nice 667 1gb on a good price... isn't that one good enought  ? Titan brand

Personally motherboard wise I would limit my pick to MSI, Asus or Gigabyte.

ALOT of motherboards now days but alot are crap.

AMD currently isnt the Bang for the buck leader.

Used to be, but the Low end Dual core 2 Intel chips are the pick for now.

As far as ram DDR2 667 tends to be the min of what you need when you get into the newer chips.

Faster ram wont hurt it as it will clock down to whatever speed the chip is.

The chips are named for what kind of core they have, FSB speed, nano size, or onboard cache size.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html   List of CPU's and relative performance.

For me when building a computer I find a great bang for the buck CPU.

INMHO its currently the Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 Conroe 1.86GHz- About $180.

If you like to tinker then the 805D is a great pick. Dirt cheap at about $60 and will overclock to the moon.

Its stock speed is 2.66 and I have it clocked to 3.55 and it keeps pace with my bros $400+ chip.

But keep in mind it prolly wont do that without a solid power supply and a good motherboard and stable ram.

.......................

One last thing.   The GHZ numbers DONT mean a damn thing anymore UNLESS you are comparing the same Chip of the same core within the same family.

Last years 3 Ghz + chip will get smoked by todays 1.8 Ghz with a nice Cache and FSB speed.
