Need help with my engine #'s.

Guys I need some help with the numbers stamped on the pad on the front of my 440

Can y'all help me and tell me what all these #'s say??

1968 440  non-HP.  Not sure about the stamped letter on the pad on the bottom rear of the block.

From the top pad:

D= Year code for 1968
440= Displacement
11 17= Build date November 17, 1967
2= Built on the 2nd (day) shift

From the bottom pad:

PT= Code for the Trenton, Michigan engine plant
440= Displacement
R= Regular fuel may be used
2302= Build date November 16, 1967
7936= Sequence number

The arrow on the side of the block pointing to the N means the block was cast on the Night shift. The circle of dots is the number of pours on that shift.

I have a question though - why are there two different build dates listed?  Is one for the lower end machining/assembly and one for the upper end/final assembly?

11-17-67 will be a 68 model year, the change over is september for the next model year, it a 68 440

Thanks alot guys, thats what was confusing me, was the 2 different build dates.......

The engine could have been assembled over the period of two days, thus the difference in stamping dates.
