Whats the one right above it?  '71 is early to have been my car, but it looks like it says Schaller, Iowa... which is where I bought my 73.

I wonder how quickly he sold it?  2700 is a steal now but in 1971 that was a fair chunk of change for an odd looking used car.

I took similar ads from alot of periodicals wingcar newsletters. My early to current hemmings collection car and parts magazines etc.Sometimes you find the same car advertisted from then till now with less mileage

I think thats a pretty neat idea to collect those ads.  Seeing prices that low kind of reminds you of those fake eBay ads, doesn't it?  Haha

Reminds me of when I was younger, and my dad passing on several wing cars because they were too expensive at $7,500 or so.

If only you had a time machine,  you could go back, buy it brand new, stick it in a garage for 30 years and live off the profilt, lol  :scratchchin:

I am currently working on that very thing.. :icon_smile_big:
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

The $2,700 Daytona would cost $13,700 in today's money.  The $4000 Superbird would cost $20,296 if the ad is from 1971.  Also it was more difficult to get credit back then.  Nowadays lenders make it real easy to get into debt.

What percentage rate are you using for inflation to go from $2,700 to $13,700?

wingfan

I used the inflation calculator at www.minneapolisfed.org.  It's the site for the Federal Reserve bank.

I was just curious as to what percentage rate that comes out to. I'm guessing around 3% or so.
