Alright, today I decided to try and put in my new XV motorsports shoulder belts and when I got to the hole that I felt through the headliner, I found that it was not threaded. Just a hole in the sheet metal. My car originally did not have shoulder belts. Is there anything I can do? Do I need to buy some kind of bracket?

I didnt think 68s came with shoulder belts did they?  If not, then theres probably nothing to bolt to, and you would have to take out the headliner and fabricate something.

Tap it out and thread that baby in there.
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I'm pretty sure there should be something like a nut welded to the whole in the overhead framework.

So maybe your poking the wrong whole.....

Yes and no. During the 1967 manufacture of the 1968 model year the shoulder belts were an optional item. Most people bought the full belt package, but there are cases where they did not. January 1, 1968 federal law made shoulder belts mandatory, so it was a stock item after that.

Interesting.  My old 68 Coronet must have been an earlier car then.  And it was pretty low optioned...  Thats the only 68 I have owned I just assumed they started in 69.
