hooking up sprinkler system

Im sure some of you have done it yourselves. Where do I hook up the timer? There's about 1 ft copper pipe sticking out of the house, do I hook up timer on the end of it?

I don't have a clue what copper pipe you're talking about. 

There's a control panel (timer) that gets wired into the valve's for each zone (area you want watered).  The valves all have wires coming out of them for hooking up to the panel.  Each zone is fed off the your main source for water thru a back-flow device.

Nevermind, Ive got pipe designed specifically for the sprinkler system that goes outside.
