I have a 73 S/E. BUT it has a power dome hood, 71-72 Hideaways and 71 R/T taillights and front and rear spoilers. I am also using 71-72 bumper brackets, getting rid of those rubber mouldings and big bumper guards. ALso losing all that extra trim on the fenders around the bumpers.

Cleans the body lines up a BUNCH. I'm also going to body color the bumpers.

71/72s had way more cool options.  It all depends on the car though, I like them all.  I have always had a thing for the 73s but id love a 71 R/T or Superbee.

Ghoste

Personally, I like the front and rear end treatments better on the 71-72 models, but that's just me.

geez, all the 3rd gen's look nice and of course Ignacio has a real nice one.

But I have to go with the 71 for me(cause i'm trying to stay on topic).  unless once again they can all look like Ignacio's

but then again there is ralleyemike's.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I always thought when they changed the rear window look the 3rd gen lost it's look. I think if they had a smalI sail panel like on the mid 60's goat it would be awsome.....forbid the rust. I like the different hood styles, they look so cool and that makes them more apealing to me. With out  any decals, bulge hood & spoiler they just look to plain for me. If I gotta 3rd gen I would have to have that to be happy.  A regular 2gen just looks awsome plain  :icon_smile_big:

3rd gens are ugly.  don't really strike me as a charger should.  2nd gens all the way!  no offense to anyone with a 3rd gen, just my opinion.

73 is my favorite, sans the great options, it is a way better handling car than a 71 or 72, PLUS  you can reach the spark plugs without totally cursing your butt off, unlike the 71/72's :D

This 73-74 handling better thing is a matter of opinion. The rubber isolators at the K and rear springs makes them ride nice on the street, but performance handling is mushy.

The 71-72's had the coolest options of ANY year Charger: Paint, shifters, hoods, wings, spoilers, etc. On top of that, the wider track and shorter wheellbase than the 68-70's, and lack of rubber isolators from the 73-74's  make them the best driving/handling years.

I've owned a (2) 69, 70, (2) 72's, and several 73/74 Chargers all with various engine combos, and I have to say 71-72 has it wrapped up hands down !!!!  I'd much rather drive my 72 383 car than my 74 440 Rallye.

Other than that, I have no opinion  :icon_smile_big:

I'll take changing plugs in my '72 any day over changing plugs in my Ford Aerostar mini van. You have to change 2 of them by feel only :P

Always leave it to a few "nut cases and fruit baskets" to reply to this thread only to talk about how they don't like 3rd gens! :icon_smile_big:

71's for me.

I don't really like the louvre design of the roof on the 73,74 models.

that is just if you pick SE... but hartops and coupes are without louvers and they are by a small difference the most assemblied... and some rare 73 SEs assemblied without louvers ( only year option to choose that )

71-72's are not just better than 73-74's but also WAY better than 68-70's (IMO) last year of the rt, one and only year of the charger super bee, louvered doors and tailights (rt's) last year of the 6 pack and hemi (71's) plus was it 2? 6 pack 72 rallye chargers? cool looking hideaways, flusher door handles, hidden wipers, bulge hoods including the ramcharger, etc etc, im sorry but those 2nd gens are way over rated Id take a 71 over a 68-70 any day of the week.

charger0740

I like 73/74 better because of the rearwindows but 71/72 had better engines and the hideaways

:scratchchin: This is way too Easy..... 71-72 hands down. 73-74 Grilles and tail lights are FUGLY   :puke:  73-74 SE hood ornaments and Opera windows look gay on a musclecar.  Big-azz bumper guards and and bumper filler trim on the 73-74`s also takes away from the cars look. 71-72 Had the best tail lights (R/T, 500,Rallye) best hoods (SuperBee, R/T, and RamCharger) Hideaway headlights, cool doors(R/T, Rallye)  as well as the 71 6 way seat track (picked one of those up recently)

71/72 For me Better options! way cool options  :D

First gens are cool!!! ;)
2nd Gens are cooler!!! and the best looking car's to ever come out of Detroit :D
3rd gens for me were the ones I could afford.   :D

73-74 all models! are way under valued currently and are the only true Hot rods left too go out and play with at this time.
C'mon If you go out and ball one up after a bunch of engine mods are you going too cry too much? I am planning a 540 Ci for my 73 satalight :D

I like them both. Couldn't pick a favorite. My 73 is a personal luxury sports car. I love it. I wish they would have kept the hideaways in 73 and 74. That was favorite part of the 3rd gen style.
