YEP, its finished sorry to say. I'm curious too, how did that happen, in all my years of racing 'em, beating on 'em, even dropped a few, I've never seen that happen.

Sorry man but I agree with the others on this. I think that it's beyond repair.

yep agreed. hey at least it can be a boat anchor and "go with the car" if you ever sell it. doesn't do much good, but at least you HAVE the #'s tranny for the car. as a side note personally i don't think a #'s matching tranny adds or devalues a car all that much. i have seen plenty of guys searching for that special #'s car, and their main focus was the engine. most never even checked the tranny

holy crap! that's a bummer, and I doubt it's fixable.....how the hell did that happen??

It could be repaired but it would look like crap.

Given enough time and especially money - anything can be fixed.  You just need to find the right person that will fix it correctly.

My cousin that was behind me swears that I shifted into Rev while goin before it exploded (he swears he saw the rev lights come on)
But idunno,.. Im still but hurt about it.

Well, technically that housing is just aluminum, so it's easily welded...BUT getting it welded straight enough to make the guts in there not bind up is a completely different story. I don't think it's very possible to put that Humpty-Dumpty back together again.

But it would make a nice conversation piece in your living room. :icon_smile_tongue:

Agreed. If you had a small crack in could be welded (if you had the right type of welding equipment) I had a small crack in the aluminum case welded on my Saturn 5-speed trans.  But in your case,  its a torsional break in a critical  area that strength is needed, plus the alignment issues in getting that tailshaft in place, and the potential for leaks due to the length of the crack.... not good bro.  :icon_smile_sad:  Speaking of leaks...that thing must have leaked like a MOFO when it happened.

True, anything can be fixed with enuf $$$.  But I'd be hesitant to ever get on it again worrying about it coming back apart.

After looking at that, I'm so glad I had another tranny built so I could save the #'s tranny along side the motor.

Are you advocating a fraudulent act?  What if you bought a car and paid big bucks for numbers matching only to find out too late you had been taken in this way?

I did'nt take it that way...but I would definately keep the remnants of the old case, and find a different one. Warranty cases or cases with the #'s ground off, to me are non-numbers matching...However, these true "warranty cases" are another subject. If this was my investment, or if I was buying the car - I wouldn't be using the term "warranty trans" - unless I had the actual warranty repair order to back it up.

No numbers would automatically signify that it was replaced. Most people it seems are more comfortable with a warranty block vs a block with the wrong numbers so I'd think the transmissions would be the same(?). I say this because if you're getting judged by someone who is inspecting the numbers then the warranty parts are "more correct". I didn't see where he advocated stamping numbers on the trans OR telling prospective buyers that it was an original replacement trans - which would obviously be fraudulent.

That trans looks pretty much wasted to me.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Ghoste

Unless new numbers get stamped in.  But it isn't an accusation, that's why the question mark was there (just so we're clear on that part).

Well Im gonna try and get it fixed,.. I loose sleep at night fellas knowing how much $$ is sitting in my driveway, and knowing my baby is not complete.

OUCH!  I have a warranty transmission if you are interested, not sure of the year though.  Numbers matching is okay, but its how you build it thats best in my eyes.

Khyron

I would seriously question the safely of that trannie if It was welded. I don't think the difference matching numbers is worth the possibility of that thing blowing and seriously hurting the driver or someone that happens to behind the car when it blows out again. I feel for you loss. But I would question the judgement on fixing it.

With all th BS over matching numbers is over I don't think too many guy's even look at the Tran's numbers! most are just concerned with the engine block.

These cars were Hot rods from the factory Most all were turned into street fighters and weekend warriors blowing engines and tyrany's left and right.

Personally I wouldn't even care about the Tran's Now if its the engine Block like in my case thats another story! Thats why I bought my car Because the engine was original I didn't even check the Tran's I didn't care about it. After all the Tran's I went threw as a Kid I know they are weak.

By the way your Trany can be saved check out this web sight,

This is another reason why I think the auction hype on these cars is out of hand.  They should be driven and enjoyed (to me anyway), and here is someone so worried about the value of his investment going down he turned down an offer from the gf.  I'm not making light of your situation or your feelings on this myrtle, but the fact is the trans is toast and if you were only worried about the difference in value of numbers matching versus non-matching, you shouldn't have been driving it hard in the first place.
Since you installed 4:10's and were out there banging on the car, I tend to think that you are more of a driver than a trailer queen collector so I'd go find the girlfriend, get all you can, then go fix the car and enjoy it too.

TUFCAT

At least the G/F is fixable...and you should be out banging on both  :D :D :D

No, I didn't mean it to sound that way.  I've seen many cars that do not have the numbers matching engine or transmission, but instead have date correct un-stamped 'factory warranty replacement' pieces.  His transmission is not easily fixable, so I was suggesting the next best thing, certainly not anything fraudulent.
