Not so much for me, all I had was some water in my basement that I've been pumping out since last night. Maybe 2 inches or so, but I kept checking & then the water sensor alarm I bought went off just before midnight. I haven't been to sleep yet & took today off to keep at it. After getting water for the first time 2 years ago after living here since 1989, I don't keep important things on my basement floor now.  ::)

So anyway, a close friend of mine since high school & another car nut, called me over the weekend to tell me his step mother passed away after fighting cancer for 2 years, she was only 60. His father isn't taking it well, & they cancelled the wake today because of the storm. The road near the funeral home has a 1/4 mile of it closed because it's under water. His father also lives on this road, & for the first time he's lived there since the early 1970's, he got hammered with water. (Bergen County, NJ)

He's had the water rise on his street before, but never up to where he was worried. Right now the basement is filled with water to the ceiling, & the water is 2 feet up on the garage wall. That means all the spare parts, motors, & all his cars are a "little wet" & not accessible since the street is closed. He & his dad were GM guys & had a variety of Chevelles, GTO's, & a few other things. I haven't seen his dad's cars in the last couple of years, but I know he has a numbers matching, semi-project, 1969 SS Chevelle with a 396, & another 1969 SS that's an absolutely gorgeous, mild custom with a 454.

His daily ride is a mid 90's Mercedes, & his wife, my friend's step mom, had another late model car which I recall was a VW. I was pretty grumpy all night with my basement flood, but after my friend called me to tell me the wake was rescheduled & what happened to his father, I don't feel so unfortunate anymore. His father is 72 years old, & my guess is he probably won't have much motivation to work on the cars after all this has happened.

Everytime it feels like things aren't going your way for whatever reason, someone else is doing a lot worse & still copes with it. I hope nobody else on here has had any losses or damage, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Very true. It's also something a most of us tend to forget a lot of the time, myself included.
I feel bad for your friend's father, that would really suck to have happen that late in life. :'(

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yeah, I'm sure his dad is feeling like he's being kicked while he's down. I'll be going to the wake tomorrow, & will see if there's anything I can do, even if it's just helping out with moving his cars somewhere with my trailer. The original spot on my property where I wanted to place my garage is the lowest, & at the bottom of a small hill. Glad I decided not to. I'm not in a flood area, but that spot would have been lower than my basement floor & probably would have taken on water.

The Passaic River is really in bad shape. Never in my 37 years has it been this bad. Many people I know have been evacuated and roads are closed for miles around here. I took these pics yesterday early on. The houses you see are most likely completely submerged by now.

Holy crap! :o That's the river overflowing?
How is your house doing, Chris? Is it on a hill of some sort?

Moparz, yes it's a good thing you didn't build your garage in a lower area. :yesnod:

CF, I am about 15 minutes from that area. I did fine, and never get any water.

The people in that area get flodded at least once a year. They pretty much expect it, but not like this. This is a once in a hundred years storm. They might not recover from this. Once I can get back in the area, I'll get some more pics.

Charger_Fan

Man, if I got flooded once a year, I don't think I'd stick around long...even if it's only a 6" flood each year.
You got some pretty good pics, were you in a boat or hip waders? :icon_smile_big:
