Anyone else notice how dramatically the price of the motor oil went up? Used to be able to buy whole case of Castrol GTX under $20 Now I spent $25 just for 5 quarts and filter.

I honestly haven't noticed. I get a deal on Amsoil so I never looked. I'll keep my eye on it.

I smell a lock coming...

My last oil change was $32.   It used to be $24 not so long ago.  I'd change it myself, but I like to have a paper trail since the vehicle is still under warranty...

Gezzz Silver, what kind of oil you use? I can still buy cases for under $20.00 here.

Of course, I remember the days you could by a case for $11.99 and it was Valvoline.

Maybe it's a West Coast thing then. Cause I can see that for Castrol or Mobil 1.

My mom saves a ton money on oil by not getting it changed. She figures if it came with the car, just leave it alone like the rest of what's on it. Tires until they won't hold air. Shocks & springs, until they actually come apart. Brakes, until soft shrubs are the only way to stop without wrecking something. And coolant, until she drives though that low lying cloud that smells like pancake syrup.   ::)

The most amazing part, is that she's the only person I know that will have the same car for 275,000 miles & be able to say it's all original.

In all honesty, i went to college with a guy who said those same lines about his Cavalier.  "Why do i need to change my oil, it came with oil?"      That car didnt last thru the second year... :hah:

You must not like your mother.J/K  I wouldn't put a Fram oil filter on my lawn mower!!! Spend a couple extra dollars and get a good filter next time.

I do not know why but I just feel better changing the oil in all my motors. Like I said, Castrol GTX in all of em'. I have to make a day of it. I will spend Saturday morning changing oil. It costs me at least $100 bucks for all the motors. That is just oil & not the filters. :yesnod:

6. 81' Yamaha Seca 750

That is allot of friggin' oil.

Use the cheap filters from Murray's and I have never had any problem with cheap filters. The oil is the motor's life's blood. Good oil is the best way to go. Cheap oil seems like it has grit.

GTX

I use Royal Purple for most of my Mopar stuff but not my daily drivers. $5.00 a quart times about 9 or 10 quarts in the GTX but it sounds like the Castrol which is my second choice is gaining in cost.
Oil change in the GTX costs around $60.00

Royal Purple in the pan, trans, rear end and blower case.

I've been having a little harder time though getting Royal Purple lately. Seems like several of the places I used to get it aren't stocking it now.

This is a timely post since I just recently ran out of the several cases of Castrol GTX that I previously bought, went to Pep Boys to get a couple more and when I got to the register the price was so high I didn't have enough cash to pay for it. Out came the old credit card.

I obviously wasn't ready for the rapid increase in price, guess I'll have to start looking for those mail-in rebate coupons.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I haven't bought any for a while so I don't know how much it has gone up. However, I buy so much oil that I get it in one, two, or five gallon containers whenever I can. Tractor Supply carries many brands in the larger sizes. If I remember correctly the two gallon container of Shell Rotella used to be $17.39 ($2.17 per quart) when the auto parts store had single quarts for $2.59 for a savings of $3.33. I typically use Castrol GTX in my other cars and it's fairly easy to find in the one gallon size.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.
