Other than all the coolers this car has, is there anything special about the police addition 318"s?? It's an 87' in a DIMPLEmat.  The owner swears the cop cars had 727s in them and this one is a 30K rebuild.  :shruggy:

The usable parts from real cop cars are the brakes, Firm Feel steering box (not the company, but the Chrysler designation for their precision box), possibly the alternator, and all the fluid coolers.

The trans should  be a 727, if so it's worth grabbing ==== if your big block is starting to scare you and you want to change ;D.

Other than that, the cop cars were pretty much emasculated by then as far as special parts, but that doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of good parts that someone may need.

The brakes are 11 inch. I checked. That was my main reason for looking at this car.. It is for sure an old cop car. I now have it in my driveway and the title in hand. The title even says (POLICE CAR).,

I haven't had anything scare me since driving a 9 second 69' cuda at the track and having the front end feel like I was leaving the ground..   3 weeks later the owner flipped the car end over end. Wheel bearing locked up, sent him into the rail and over and over it went..  Good thing it had a very well build cage in it..

I'm giving my back a rest, but will be under it tomorrow.  I am still looking for a set of BIG brake caliper brackets. Slider style....

The steering box seams to have a bunch of slop in it. It has 2 tags in tip of the box that I have never Seen before. I just gave it an under hood bath, so I will have to wait till I can see everything.. I did look up the box and it should drop right into my 65' Coronet.. At least the rebuilt boxes for each are the same number.. Don;t know about the pitman.

The alt. is a monster and has a monster of a bracket. TOO DAMN BIG for under my hood!!  I much rather go to the Denso system..

The coolers are definitely coming out..  So is the spot light..   :D

It's not an 8.750, but I am pretty sure it will have a sure grip. Don't know if it's worth pulling as I never hear of anyone looking for one..

Also scored (5) 15 x 8 cop wheels with caps...

I had a 1983 Diplomat.  It had a windage tray, a power steering cooler, a 114 amp alt, rear swaybar.  That was about it.

Well I couldn't help myself. I had to go back out and play a little. I didn't jack it up yet, but it sure looks like a 904 to me. It's a bit hard to see with the exhaust in the way..

I figured the wash down had dried by the time I went back out. Well it did, but that didn't stop me from firing it up. FLOODED... I pulled all the plugs. Barely finger tight. Flooded as hell. Maybe that totally plugged air filter had something to do with it...   :-\  1 wire was about chewed in half. Looked like rats got to it..  :RantExplode:

I was a bit shocked to see a ROCHESTER Q-JET atop the 4BBL manifold. The last cop car I stripped had a thermoquack on it...

Pulled the cap to make sure it wasn't full of condensation and found a realllllly crappy looking gut. Cap and rotor looked good and no water, but the pick up and reluctor look like shit.. I'll get it fired up tomorrow and decide if I am going to bother to pull it.

Steve P. Burnies and neutral drops are a must. Heavy beatings in the corners are next on the list. When the beatings are finished you will have more stories to tell. ;D

Hahaha....

I found a few problems with this 20 year old beast.

1) A rat eat a bunch of number 6 plug wire.

2) The air filter was plugged just about solid.

3) Needle was stuck open.

4) 3 plugs were gapped by throwing them on the ground. None were more than .020.. 3 shut tight.

5) Ancient gas.

6) Nearly plugged cat.

7) Last owner full of shit. It is a 904. Not a 727.

8) The coil crapped out once it warmed up.

9) Spot light is burned out..

    THE FIX

1) Replaced rat eaten wire.

2) Tossed the air filter in the trash can.

3) Beat the shit out of the carb with a small hammer. No needle and seat problems anymore.

4)Put a set of cheap Champion plugs in it.  Properly gapped of course.   (I hate Champions)...

5) Tank was extremely close to empty so I just added a few gallons of high test..

6) Got out the Saws All and cut the cat. right off the old battle ax.

7) I'll get a better look at the numbers to see if it's a 999 tranny soon.

8) Bolted on my TEST coil.

9) Have not messed with the spot yet.

By noon I was out doing burn outs with it..  107,000 miles and it still turns both rears like it's really, really pissed off...  :drive:

Forget the spot light. Spend the money on more gas for the burnies. Like I said in another post; that is an order soldier. Carry on.
