If Imus was a black rapper with his hair tied up coolio style and said what he said in a song he would still be on the air and no one would care not Sharpton not Jackson no one would give a crap.

Because that kind of cRAP gets played on thousands of radio stations across this country every day with lyrics worse than what Imus said. I think snoop dogg said it if the words came from a rapper instead of a 60 year old creepy white guy no one would care.

Imus was sacrificed on the alter of political correctness.

I have a personal story about Al Sharptounge, about 10 years ago the local high school had a major scandal take place, it seems a 16 year old girl was found "servicing" about 9 boys during school in a stairwell where the cameras could not see. The boys were lined up and waiting their turn. Well the school caught wind and found out and expelled all of them. Girls and boys. Well as you can guess the girl was white and the boys black about a week after they got tossed who shows up at and holds a press conference in front of the high school? Good ole Al I remember his comment about this. The school was racists because all the boys who partook were black, he said surely there was at least one WHITE BOY who was involved and why they did not expel him? Well after a little investigation it turns out yep all the boys were black and the girl was white. Reverend AL skulked away without another word and crawled back under whatever rock he came from in Harlem.

Just a thought, but I'm willing to bet a cold one that Imus needed a way out of his contract so he can sign with a satellite radio company without being in breach of contract. He's been copying Howard Stern ever since Stern was on NBC in the 80's, so why not continue to follow in his footsteps? Anyone ever remember hearing Imus play bits on his morning show from the afternoon Stern show the day before? I suppose he did that since he had no original or funny material of his own.

A little change to the subject -

The irony in all of this is Imus denigrating someone else's hair!!  Dennis Miller described Imus perfectly on Bill O'Reilly the other night.

Miller: Imus to me looks like a werewolf who only had enough energy to get halfway through the transformation.

Miller:  It looks like he said I'll put this off till the next full moon. I'm just going to sit here like this.

Miller:  And you know something? Now that I can see his actual hair, this was wrong on three levels. It was bad about gender. It was bad about race. And Imus should never be judging anybody in the follicular manner, because he's sitting there with that Elsa Lancaster mullet of his, talking about other people's hair, and it's just wrong.  (For those of you who don't know who Elsa Lancaster is - she is a no-name actress who played the part as "The Bride of Frankenstein")

Now that's funny!! :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

QuoteAside from whether Imus, Sharpton, Stern, Jackson, the Rutgers team, sponsors who left, ho's, the station who aired the show, or anyone else who had their feelings hurt is right or wrong, there is a bigger issue that's overlooked. There is money being made by someone right now on all this BS. In the media, which is part of our wonderful entertainment industry, if someone has no talent or any original ideas to generate, the next best thing to do is to stir up something to gain attention.

Say something shocking, shave your head & tattoo yourself, point your finger at a "racist" or whatever else it takes to have people look your way is how to do it. The fact that people pay so much attention to all this so called "entertainment" amazes me. How many of you remember being told to ignore someone who was saying or doing something to you that annoyed you in order for it to stop? The same goes for BS entertainment. Ignore it, like a bad TV show with no ratings, & it goes away.

Is it true that front page stories of Anna Nichole, white house interns giving head to presidents, Imus (who was never funny that I can recall) saying dumbass crap, are all that important? What happened to actual problems in society that need attention? Politicians, the media, big business, etc., are more interested in keeping society entertained & lost in BS so they can keep going to the bank while nobody sees it. If everyone is more interested in what they are force fed as a problem, then the real issues are forgotten.

There's not enough money to be made, for waaaaay too much effort, to come up with a solution to something important. Like something that might actually help someone.

Very well put Old guy. The frenzy is driven by money and egos. The most disturbing thing is that so many people in America actually pay any attention to these grandstanding idiots and the media darlings while they bat this about :rotz:

I also agree with Old Moparz.  Guess those baby boomers forgot the old saying they said when they were young, "trust no one over 30" or something like that.

You a nappy-headed ho, Shakey. :nana:

Actually, what I find most interesting about this incident is the number of news outlets who've been using the opportunity to repeat the slight in print several hundred times all across the nation. Talk about perpetual BS.

The only reason that this story has any legs left to it at all is that the Anna Nicole paternity party is over. This trivial incidents are getting way too much press. Guess the world is in good shape if a kid's parentage and a spaceshot's comments are good for weeks of front page news.

And of course ratings, which boils down to money, is the only driving force.

I was watching the news in the USA the other night and one of the talk radios guys (they always say "you're a great American" to all the callers on his show) said that he used the term "illegal alien" and someone at the The Denver Post called him a racist.   :shruggy:

I don't get that one either.

There was no talk of firing Imus, just the 2 week suspension.

He was fired when the sponsors started pulling their advertising dollars.

That's why he was fired. It was business. Nothing less. Otherwise, you're going to have a hard time explaining why they first suspended him (while leaving him on the air) and then later fired him.

I very much agree.   I never liked IPUS, but I don't think he SHOULD have been tossed for what he said. He has as much right as the KKK does and for the few rallies I have seen here, I don't recall anyone being arrested or get their mouth taped shut..

On the other hand I would like to see some of these rotten tooth, un-bathed, INBRED, mullet wearing red necks with their noose key chains and 8 dogs under the front porch taken down a notch or two. I hate racial bullshit. It's as bad if not worse than    HITLER..   :D

Okay let me get this straight, so it's okay to say those things based on the color of your skin not on the words themselves. So calling a woman a HO is ok really and not a sexist statement that all the media is screaming and tearing their clothes over.

So let me get the ground rules straightened out here based on your logic.

The word HO can be considered sexist based on these criteria

White man calls a black woman o HO = Not OK
White man call a white woman a HO = OK
Black man calls a black woman a HO = OK
Black man calls a white woman a HO = Not OK

Ohhhhh those rules really clear things up.

how about we don't call any women HOs on the public airwaves and in music because it is about respect for another person.

the same could be said for the nappy headed part, although that is more a directed racial slur but the same ground rules apply because it's not the nappy head words that are bad it is based on the color of the skin of the person saying it.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be a convenience store NOT a government agency!

I agree that racism goes both ways. I don't think it should be an AMERICAN problem. Born and raised in Upstate NY. I went to school and lived around all colors. Never had a problem with it. Still don't. What I have a problem with is people that go out of their way to make life miserable for others. As if we don't have enough on our plates already!!

What Imus said on the air does push the rope. Same as what I see on the news every time their is a KKK rally.  It makes me sick. I have worked with people of many colors. Raced with a black guy that taught me a ton about racing. Lived next door to him for a while. I just don't see what all the fuss is about..

Someone on here right now is thinking that a job was taken or something nasty. Well, sorry.. Maybe that person should have been more difficult to replace. I'm not saying things should be stronger one way or another. I would just like to see everyone get along well and watch after each other. There is just no need for all this strife..

Listen, it's apparent that noone in this country gets it!!  This event is really just a set-up for what lays ahead.  This was good for Imus, because 50% of the country had no clue who he was.  He was probably unhappy with his contract and the ratings for his show were low.  Now, with all this hype that is dividing this country straight down racial lines I'm sure he will be on satelite radio making money.
So, the big picture is this.  Imus is going to get sued.  His attorneys will argue that the hip hop industrie degrades woman and blacks then the media will launch a campaign to get rid of hip hop and Al Sharpton and Jesse jackson will be on a long vacation

Steve P.

Hahahahahahahahahahaa........   That is probably true..    Somehow I don't think Imus is hurting for money, but maybe he still wants to pad his cash account.. The guy looks like he's about 85 years old..

I usually listen to Imus on the way to work for about 20 minutes a day.  While I could care less if he has a job or not, the timing of it stinks, right in themiddle of the radiothon that raised 3 million bucks for kids with cancer, sids, etc....  I know cbs had a lot of pressure from sponsors, but it could not have waited another few hours?

The guy is a Jerk, anyone who listens knows that.  Did he deserve what he got? I don't know.  But know this, he has made a career pissing everyone off, even his frequent guests, and what happened to him proves that people only tolerated him because if his power.  Jerks like him always go down very fast when the shit hits the fan because everyone who is forced to put on a happy face and take his shit is really secretly laying in wait for the chance to get even....

now onto sharpton and jackson.    Both documented racists and they never lost their jobs, know why?  because they don't have jobs to lose, that's why. unless you count being a pain in everyone's ass as a job. They target a specific group in society (white people, Jews, or whoever) and single them out and assume behavior(we are all a bunch or racists, right?)  based on skin tone, religion, or some other factor that's not based on the persons actions or who they are.    If that's not racism, I don't know what is.

I am still waiting for the apology for the twana brawley cluster fuck and the duke lacross fiasco.    How about the 90 duke faculty turds who signed that bullshit paper basically saying the 3 guys are guilty before one single thing was proven?  They are a bunch of racists and it's been proven publicly, now come they still have jobs?

But more than anything, I resent the hell out of these two going on that tv every chance they get to imply or outright say that I am a racist.  Society is treating their people wrongly they say.  I am a member of that society and they never met me, so how can they know anything about me?  There are many people who do some pretty bad stuff, but I'm not one of them. Has either of these two ever acknowledged that most people white or black or any other color are decent hard working  people?

want to fire imus? go ahead, but apply the same standard to everyone else some time, try that for a few months and see how it turns out.  oh yeah, and don't tell me that Imus only said that because of Rap Music, what a cop out!!  Sure, the Rappers are not good for any young men, white or black, but Imus said it because he thought it was funny and based on some of the bits he did on the radio in the 70's, He might really be a racist.  I recall one where he had a black character and used to ask him to smile so he could see him.  pretty bad.  and in the last year, he had mcgurk imitate new orleans mayor ray nagin at least once a week.  Besides not being funny, I don't think it's wise to have a white guy imitating a black mayor and saying a lot of things in character that were stereotypical to say the least.

I would have to agree, that there would be endless arguments about that if there was a channel formed in a "WHITE" format, I am personally sick of Jesse Jackson and  that other fool Al Sharpton, as far as Im concerned they are both just media hounds, and racists themselves, What was that audio bit about him talking about Greek homos and Jews?
