It's a put down meant to mean hair is not straight, as hair used to be treated (heated oiled and ironed) to be more closely resemble a europian's straight hair...

"Ashy kneecapps" is usually included in the phrase  but i don't think that Imus honky cracker is actually hip enuff to know about that.

Nap:  (a) Verb.  To sleep, generally as in to take a short period of sleeping, napping; (b)  Noun.  The pile on a rug, as in "the nap on this rug is 1 inch thick".

Nappy:   Meaning tight, curly hair.  Generally associated with persons of color, particularly those of black or African descent.  Not particularly derogatory; often used by blacks to refer to hair type.  Often used by black mothers when admonishing their children, as in "Bring your nappy head in here right now!"  White school teachers, however, must not use

If I didn't have enough reasons to hate Don Imus...now I hate him for making me agree with Al Sharpton.

I dont know why of all people he went to "apologize" to that racist, anti-semite Al Sharpton.

I don't listen to Imus but the absurdity of him going on a show that is hosted by a race-baiter like Sharpton, who has never apoligized for his role in the Tawana Brawley incident, is beyond the pale.

What's even worse are these players who now claim they are ruined for life and that what they've accomplished this season means nothing? Because some old cokehead geezer called you a stupid name? PLEASE. They're looking for a payday at this point.

Exactly. Make all the noise you can to increase your payoff. While one may side with them over the original slur, to bemoan the fact to this extent is just as shallow as Imus.

If you're looking for true damage done, look at those Duke players. Those guys will be paying the price for years to come because of a racist driven accusation that was a complete fabrication.

The team that beat them must be racist.

Don't worry the Rev Jesse Jackson will probably have an answer or maybe he can sit as a mediator between all parties involved.

He has to do SOMETHING to stay in the public eye to feed his insatiable publicity-hungry ego..... imagine that, the guy who once referred to NYC as 'hymie-town' has to come into save the day for these defenseless little girls against the big mean bad man Imus.....  how these two clowns manage to insert themselves in these situations to 'save the day' and create a public outcry where none previously existed is beyond me. Them getting involved to solve a 'problem' is akin to putting out a fire with gasoline.

It's called freedom of speech. I happen to think that even Imus shouldnt get fired for what he said. if his sponsors pull out and no one listens to him after that, then he should be - its a bussiness move.

I never liked him or Rush, so I just never tuned to their radio stations. Its that simple.

If you want to live in a place where people are taken "off the airwaves" because of what they say, move to China or North Korea.

Really. . There are a lot of people on television and radio that I think have nothing good to say, should they be taken off the air? I can not stand Stern, but should he be taken off the air, No. Just because you don't like Rush doesn't mean he should be taken off the air. And with 20 million listeners a day, he won't be leaving any time soon.

No, you're killing yourself. That's not even close to what I said. Are you really that dense?  You're supposed to read, comprehend, and then post.

I think Imus would still be on the air if he hadn't gone on Sharpton's show. What was he thinking??? We had a local radio show host get canned for making a remark about a football player and the station was threatened with a lawsuit. I suppose it's hard to be on the edge and (some would say) entertaining if doing so will get you sued. Some people know how to push the envelope and not get hurt (too bad) but others.................

I honestly don't remember ever listening to or watching Imus but I don't really watch TV or listen to talk radio. The problem with saying "don't listen" is that millions of sheeple are more than willing to repeat every word from their favorite host at work, the grocery store, restaurants, bars, and even on internet forums.
