Can carbon fiber be painted on?

I know this is a dumb question but I'm curious if your able to have carbon fiber hoods painted to the color of your body?

And yes carbon fiber can be painted, but be careful when roughing up the surface for paint. there is a thin layer of resin on top of the fiber. try not to sand through it.

Who knows?  I wouldn't be surprised if it was real.  There are musclecars with twin Weiand blowers that look just as stupid.

Carbon fiber is interesting.  It has some great uses, but it's so "trendy" right now that half the places you see it don't make much sense.

And those whole carbon fiber chassis?  What the hell for? 

I can understand individual CF body panels, but I don't think it makes much practical sense to do the whole loadbearing shell with it.  People can build nice Shelby Cobra frames from aluminum that weigh like 225 pounds.  I don't think it would be worth it to sacrifice the "crushability" and cheapness of aluminum just to take a few more pounds off that number.

Actually c/f is very strong and is used on chassis parts/frame and is lighter than aluminum. Formula cars save every unneeded ounce of weight.

Yeah there's the weight issue, but I have a hard time agreeing with enclosing a driver is such a brittle structure. 
There just seems to be such a prevailing opinion in motorsports these days that anything is "safe" whenever it's as stiff/strong as possible . . . only after the bodies pile up do they start saying, "Okay, well, yeah . . . maybe these structures also need to crush in a controlled manner too."

Look at Dale Earnhardt's death:  All this talk about the HANS device, etc . . .  but the real ugly truth is that impact shouldn't have put enough G-forces on his neck to even bring that issue into play.  His NASCAR Monte Carlo's front end probably didn't slow that impact down as well as a street-car Monte Carlo's unibody would have.
