rearend 8 3/4 can you leave the gears out of it

I have a 8 3/4 rear end and was wondering if i could just put the housing in without the gears in ,just to be able to move around the garage.

The axles will float in the center of the rear end but the axle bearings will more or less hold them straight.  The answer is yes.  I wouldn't want to pull one down the road like this however.
