Reducing high oil pressure

The oil pressure in my stroker has always been real high... maybe even excessive. Cold idle, it pumps at about 80 psi. Hot it drops to 40 psi. Way more than the 10 psi / 1000 rpm  generally recommended. Oil pump is a Melling high volume / standard pressure unit.

My old stock 383 sits in the corner of the garage, so I figured I would steal the relief spring off the stock pump and swap it with the one on the HV pump. I discovered they were the same spring. So much for that idea.  :scratchchin:

My next plan is to try a Milodon externally adjustable spring. Anybody have any experience with these?

Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

I run that psi as well.

The 10 psi for every 1000 rpm is the MINIMUM recommendation

Seems like a lot to me. Makes me a little nervous seeing the oil pressure guage pegged.

But it you guys say it's okay, I'll leave it alone.

That's what it ran in my 69.  This car doesn't have a number range just a marking for a normal range, but my 440's ran those same pressures in the Charger and the Super Bee.

MIne runs similar pressure , the Milodon adjustable pressure reg works great also , I have used them in the past with good results
I did run a KB pump once & it made 175 psi at idle , I adjusted it down somewhat !!

myk

I'm running those numbers as well, although I had to have that verified by someone else as my gauge is WAY off.  Maybe you should have your gauge checked also just to be certain...
