So I was visiting my grandmother down in Wisconsin this weekend and we were looking through our old photos and came across my grandpas 69 Camaro SS...These pics were taken around the summer of 1979 in Onalaska, WI (by La Crosse). The car was parked at this location after 10 years of driving it. Then one day the Mississippi River (in the background of the side view) started to flood and my grandpa moved it back to his garage where it sat for an additional number of years. For some GODAWFUL reason, he took the engine (I think it was a 396, not sure though) he took out the engine from the Camaro, put it in a Suburban, and sold the Suburban with the frickin Camaro engine in it!!  :flame:  :brickwall: Then it remained in that garage until he died in 1999. At that time I was about 10 years old and new nothing about cars and i had referred to that car as "A piece of crap in grandpas garage" Then when I got into cars i realized how cool that car was. My mom almost took the car to our house when he died but she didnt because "theres no place to put it" when we have a nice huge back yard to put it in and tarp it...but whats done is done....my grandma sold the camaro body (no motor/trans along with other things missing) sold it to a guy in the La Crosse, WI area for around $1500-$2000 or so(dont remember exact price) After seeing these I am now gonna try and find the guy who bought my grandpas car and see if he still has it or not because I would like to bring it back into the family. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it, this car is awesome to me.

It would be nice if you could find it and better yet if you can get it back. You and your family don't need to be insulted from what happened. Your grandparents simply didn't know at the time that the car was or would be valuable as a collector item. Let us know if you find it and what it looks like today. Good luck!

The RS/SS (especially if it is a real pace car) is treated just the same as the hemi/440+6 E bodys of the Mopar crowds. The guy that got it for $1500-$2000 knows what he got and getting it back may turn out to be just like getting a 440+6 roller from a Moparite.

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :yesnod: :drool5: :drool5: :drool5: I have a 1967 Camaro RS and I it's my baby!!!! Gonna bring it out here to Tennessee soon! :icon_smile_tongue:
Hope you find the car and original engine/tranny! That would be neat to have a car that your Grandpa drove! :icon_smile_big:

Keep us informed if you have success!!!!

It would be nice to get a piece of history and a link to your family back. Hope you get it. Just wondering, if you know, how did your grandpa come to own it? That might be an interesting story.

He bought the car new, Im not sure when or for how much, this is what my grandma and mom told me.

I know its a super long shot to just get the car back but to get the original motor and everything is gonna be right next to impossible...but I will definitely keep this thread updated as I get information!

Wish me luck

Man,
Ease up on the BOLD, no need to shout. :nono:
For those of us who pay attention... usually the bold writing means it's "Mrs.Skip68" posting. I suppose it's too late to tell you that "man" is the improper way to address a lady? And caps are for shouting not bold. Just wondering why you didn't include a reprimand for TripleBlackGator as well? And who made you the post enforcer any way? Wouldn't this be a wonderful site if all we did was sat around and critiqued each others posts?

Here's a few tips:
Some people here aren't very good at spelling (I still have my CudaKen decoder ring).
Some people here like to use colors, bold, or capital letters either to differentiate their posts or because their eyes aren't as great as they used to be.
Some people here spend a lot of time on a computer and others barely know how to turn one on.
Some people here are young while others are just immature.

I actually sort of like the 67-69 Camaros even though I'd rather have a Firebird from the same years. However, a Pace Car convertible would sort of trump just about anything other than a COPO car. It's cool that you found the pictures. I don't even have pictures of my own cars but I do have a picture or two of my dad's.

Reprimand me? No offense anyone. I'm not shouting. I just want to be able to see better. Honestly I wouldn't mind if everyone used bold.

A COPO would not[/b] change hands for a few grand, unless its a blood debt, a family blood debt, or is 1:24 scale. :icon_smile_big:

I'd love to see way more pictures if you find it and what shape it is now in. Although the '67 to '69 Camaro is not the rarest car on the planet a pace car is a very nice piece in anyone's books.

Actually, we do - as long as it's not mean-spirited. Ok, maybe it's just me then... ;)

We're all (or mostly all) guilty of doing something ignorant from time to time so I can't point any fingers there. It's what reminds us to be humble. Because I can edit stuff I manage to hide my ignorance from most of the public.  >:D :smilielol:

That car you could have the "correct" engine in it once again. See GM just had date stampings on the engines back then. I beleive they changed in 72 or 73. but I know on a 67 at least if you have a car that was a 396, that you got with no engine, if you buy a 396 built within 2 months of the car its generally viewed as having the correct or original engine to alot of GM guys. As long as its not one of those GM 302's which are damn near impossible to find anymore.
