What the heck is it for

When I was putting the vinyl top trim on my car tonight I found a bracket in the trunk on the passenger side in between the trunk lid hinge and the quarter panel its round and has a latch the hooks to itself and the pull back to the passenger side to close it its about the roundness of a coffee mug I would post a pic but every time on here when I go to post even 1 pic it says it is to big for the operation can some one tell me about the bracket and what am i doing wrong with my pictures thanks Lee :

if i am thinking the same peice you are i am sure it was the original jack holder that held the top of the jack inplace, you can sorta see it in this pick

What year is your car? Could be a 1st or 3rd generation thing.  The jack and jack brackets were on the driver's side in 1968 and 1969.

My question wasn't directed very well.  I was wondering what year Lee's car was.  I can see that your's is a 2nd generation - but Lee wasn't very descript as to the year of his car.  Could be a 3rd generation thing.

Didn't the 70s California cars have some sort of a charcoal cannister back there that was plumbed into the vapor return system?  I vaguely remember some details related to that issue, but I could be way off too...

My car is a 68 charger and i know what the jack holder looks like and this is on the passenger side right inbetween the lid hinge and the quarter panel it is on the hump at the top its like a grease gun holder on the back of an old john deere

     Lee, without seeing pics, I would say that is is a california car with the vent canister in the trunk. I believe it had 4 smaller tubes inside that were breathers for the car. You have described the "grease gun holder" to a tee as being the vent canister.

what was it propose was it for emissions because thats funny the car was made then shipped to Saskatchewan Canada where it has been all its life.I like to find what it is for thanks Lee

The system they are referring to with the California cars was indeed for emissions. I know I have a picture of it around here somewhere. . .
