If I recall correctly, when I lived out west and spent too much time out in the Rockies a Park Ranger once said if you run into a Grizzly do not try to outrun it uphill as they can out run you uphill.....but if you ran down a steep hill they would fall / tumble because of their shorter front legs....but alas they would be waiting for you at the bottom....so your only option was to then turn and then run uphill....which of course seals your fate 

Funny guy. He also said something like humans are too boney, so they usually just eat your ass and calves.

Don't believe that downhill stuff. If a bear has you in his sights, you are done for. They can outrun a race horse for a short distance. They can run uphill, downhill, and side hill at least forty feet per second, and faster. Don't run from bears.
