Hello guys,

I have a buddy out in L.A. that has a project 69 Charger.. The Vin Tag on the cowl was rotted away and there is no fender tag on the car. He did get the partial vin from the engine and the stamping in the trunk rail area and the title matches all the numbers... Problem is he wants the vin back on the dash and wants it to look stock. Is there anyone who knows where to get this done? i have been searching, but don't know where else to turn. his email is usa@gbgperformance.se or you can just post here and i will forward on the info.

Thanks.

Galen might be the guy to call on this one.  Good Luck and hope you find what you need. :icon_smile_big:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

These folks may be able to help you with a fender tag.

I have heard some good things about the datatags site, but have not used them personally.  Good luck with Galen.  I sent him an e-mail request about a similar issue over a year ago.  Haven't heard squat.

That's no way to do business.

No matter what unless issued by your state it is illegal to get a new VIN tag even if its the same as before.

What state department manufactures reproduction VIN tags?

I really dont know but Barry from Cuda-Challenger said this and he seems very knowledgable.
-New VIN plates even if they show the original VIN of the car come under the "counterfit" VIN category.

The only legal way to have a VIN plate made is by the original manufacture - and only on new cars.

If the VIN tag is missing, the legal way to deal with it is to apply for a state issued VIN.

And I believe, state issued ones look nothing at all like the original and it will be a state issued number.

He (Barry) also said something along these lines if the original VIN was WP29G4A10000 for the state of washington it would be WAWP29G4A10000 but he is unsure about every other state.

The Trimtags ones are typical of the fake tags I see most often. They are not well done and are often factually incorrect. The fake tags are missing the inspection stamp outs and are missing the three vertical impressions in the upper right corner. Look at the 70 Charger example they have on their site.....brutal.

The paint code GB5 doesn't exist...assuming they were going after EB5 Blue

The production date of 716 is 6 days past the 70 model production year end date and does not correspond to the VIN sequence.

You would think if they were using that as an example of quality they would have gotten it right.

I don't have a problem with companies reproducing fender tags or even dash VIN tags as long as the customer cam prove with iron-clad documentation that the information is legitimate and legal. These companies should insist on it as they could be party to a lawsuit if someone gets duped on a car.

Could their website one have some mistakes in it on purpose?  Say to prevent it being used in an e-bay scam?

GB5 is a valid code but not until 71 (G series) but you're right...it's not a valid code on a '70 tag

to reinforce your point about showing correct examples..I believe their '68 Coronet tag is wrong too.

Buying a car with a bad tag is not a good deal....DAMHIK
Seeking information on '69 St. Louis plant VINs, SPDs and VONs. Buld sheets and tag pictures appreciated. Over 3,000 on file thanks to people like you.

Being a Painter I can tell you the GB5 does exist. What most people dont know & common mistake they make is Painting there car the Wrong B5 blue. EB5 Blue & GB5 Blue are actually 2 different colors. Then they Wonder why it doesn't match :RantExplode:  Why that Paint code was put on a 70 tag was a big mistake that should not have happened. Obviously someone there is Incompetant. LEON.

The Evergreen State...Washington.  Mind you it's nothing like an original and they mount it where they want.

Old Moparz

There's a note on the bottom of Trim Tags page that says no VIN tags can be made.
