What is your opinion on after market seats?

Hopefully I'm not posting too much, I wouldn't want to become the next bronze. As some of you may remember my mom was making me put in some headrests in my car and also shoulder belts (thanks to XV I've got the belt problem solved). If I'm going to have to put in new seats I'd like to put in some kind of after market seats, most likely Corbeau's. Anyways the issue is that my dad is VERY against the idea. Even though the car is 100% mine (bought it and pay for all parts with my own money) he is still very against the idea. His feeling on it is that it looks redneck, like I didn't have the money to reupholster the seats. My feeling on it is that it looks slick when done nicely, and plus I would be able to adjust the seat to exactly how I want it. I would also keep the originals just incase. This is on a '68 Sport Satellite with its original 383 4 barell (bored .030 over,Holley carb, Eddy intake, headers, comp cam) so its not a extremely rare car, or even a cool survivor. My take is on it, I'd rather make a few modifications to it to make it more enjoyable for ME, than keep it all original and possibly have it be worth more. I realize that when I', 45 years old I'll probably want the old nostalgia feel and possibly go back to the original seats. I was just hoping to see your guys' thoughts on after market seats.

:haha: :haha: Well, I'd have to say three identical threads might put you in the "posting too much" category. :yesnod:

There's only one now... ;)

I really kinda like the Summit Racing buckets and they are relatively cheap as well. I have to admit that most after market seats do look pretty cheezy in an older car. There are a few that look "right" but they tend to be above my budget. If everything else is stock I think they'll stick out like a sore thumb. I'd concentrate more on the mechanical, safety, and reliability areas before messing with the interior (I say this as I wait anxiously for my new interior while my order for suspension and brake parts is on hold).

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

When my son was putting his Duster together he wanted buckets, it was a bench seat car. He bought a set of seats from Summit and installed them. He also installed a new Hurst shifter. Within two weeks during a launch at the strip the driver's seat broke and layed back into the back seat. He didn't hurt the car and got it stopped. He built the car to race so he just made a box to place behind the seat keeping it upright after welding the broken frame. Since then I have taken the seat out and added new metal and welded the frame to make it stronger. We now own the car and I have gotten used to the seats. But I am always looking for a set of A body buckets to replace them. They work but they are cheaply made. By the way the next thing he had to do was to put in subframe connectors. The body was flexing enough that the doors were becoming harder to use, now they are fine. Buy a decent pair of seats don't go cheap. You get what you pay for.

I think that as long as they don't look to ricer then go for it.  This is after all your car.  Mike (Mr. Angry) runs Corbeaus in his car.  I will probably go with them in my 73.  Remember it's yours and if it makes you feel comfortable and safe, then who cares what others think...

Some of them look ok, but I prefer factory seats over any of them.

thanks for the opinions guys. As far as multiple posts? What must have happened is I thought my computer wasn't working right last night, when I hit post it wouldn't do anything, so I refreshed the page and hit post again, still nothing happened so I just copied what I had wrote and decided to post it in the morning (The Office was coming on, I couldn't miss it). So I guess the first two times I tried to post it actually worked, sorry bout that. Will it be cheaper for me to buy some seats with headrests or add bezels and get headrests for my seats?

I've ran both the Sparco Milano's and Torino II's in different cars, and I liked them both.   The only thing you need to be careful of is the width of the seat.   For some, the side bolsters may be considered tight, but they have options for width.   Corbeau's are nice too, but I found the Sparco's more comfortable on longer trips.

I was kicking around the idea of putting different front seats in mine but having a white interior it just wouldn't look right. First there is the cost of the seat and then the cost of having it upolstered in a way that it would look right with the rest of the interior. I have the factory seats with head rests right now but you sure do slide around allot on them.

I was looking over some A-body seats but still haven't decided yet.
