Well, aren't they all?   :yesnod:

Here in Canada it is a holiday and everything is shut down (Government offices, banks, beer & liquor stores and most businesses).  Now, from what I am learning, it is not recognized nationally in the United States but in some states it is.   :shruggy:

Do you have Good Friday off?  If so, do you celebrate in any way?

You can read a bit more about Good Friday here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday

Our family takes this opportunity to get together and celebrate with each other, some friends and of course plenty of food and maybe even some drinks.     Today, my Mother & Father, my Mother-in-Law, Father-in-Law and a handful of friends and their children are coming over to just plain have a good time.  My Father has always made us avoid meat on Good Friday  :nono:  (he goes thoughout Lent without eating meat on Fridays) so today we are serving seafood.

We will set up the deep fryer in the garage (so the house doesn't stink for days on end) as my In-Laws are bringing Yellow Perch (they live on the shore of Lake Erie and know where to get plenty of it on the cheap as it can be pricey and it is one awesome tasting fish  :drool5: ) and we'll also serve Paella which my Mother will make on the stove  :drool5: .  My Wife made french fries and cole slaw, we have some jumbo shrimp and some cheeses for appetizers and of course, some beer wine and whatever.

Anyways, hope you enjoy this Good Friday, all the best to everyone over the Easter weekend.  I'll be sure to add some pics of the spread when I get the chance.  Lori's calling me to help get the house and children ready as the guests will arrive shortly.

If I was the good Catholic boy I once was, I'd be fasting, taking the day off from work, and going to church (but not mass) later on. But I'm at work right now.... :icon_smile_angry:

oy vey....I know where you're going with this. You'd be surprised at the makeup of this one. Let's just say not many people took the day off on Monday or Tuesday....

I took the day off in observance of Good Friday.  It isn't offered as a Holiday where I work.  It used to be but when they added Martin Luther King Day as a holiday they took Good Friday away.   ::)

heh heh no need to explain I did allot of business with lawyers doing side jobs in law offices and used to work for a company that all we did was computer repair for law firms in the Cleveland area. They all, every last one of them, was CONVINCED that they were THE most important lawyer in the city of Cleveland. If their computer went down then the whole dang law firm would grind to a halt and the world would stop turning.

But to answer shakeys question we will probably go to the late service at church

Hope everyone had a great day!  I'm hangin' in there after eating too much and drinking just the right amount.  Still have a few guests here, my Folks are stayin' the night which makes my Daughter happy.  Hopefully Mom will make a full sized breakfast in the morning.   :yesnod:

Here are a few photos of the spread from today.

Yes we're very fortunate to be able to get together and to have so much.  You are correct, Easter is not just about the Easter Bunny and chocolate, although I am sure my three year old would disagree, we feel that being with family, and some of our friends that are just as close as family, is what it's all about.

Follow your gut and try to re-establish these traditions with your family - they will thank you in the long run.
