hey guys happy holidays

i've decided to install a aluminum rad in the daytona with the new motor . i figure the more cooling the better . plus i'm gonna install vintage air in the future. i got the old one sold . this is the rad that i think i'm gonna use . i'm sticking with Champion rads because some of the cheaper ones are glued together these are brazed. please look at it and tell me what you think and do i have the hose positions correct , thanks .

Hi Rene,

As long as your water pump housing is the same configuration as "stock", that radiator's hose positions look OK to me... even the overflow tube exits to the driver's side as they did originally.  Chances are good you could use standard radiator hoses for your plumbing.

Which radiator did you have in your car before (assuming it was an OE Chrysler part)?  Does that particular manufacturer have the layout for mounting flanges on a stock radiator yoke?

BigBlockSam

thank you; Gene and happy holidays

good , i had a brain fart about the hose positions . i don't need the tranny cooler . i have an external one . it's suppose to be a direct fit . plus i have my original sold for $250 . to a friend that's restoring a  charger  to stock . so it'll be a freeeeeeeeeeeee upgrade .
that's rare. i will paint the sides and top satan black.

You will find that radiator a good fit, bought and used the same one if that's the big three core , good radiator, and good price too , best part is your factory shroud will fit , keep up the good work

The Radiator seemed ok - but it did not work for me. Actually brass or copper has a better conductivity than aluminum. I had this radiator and took it out and got a 3 core stock radiator  - with a stock showed. I did get a lock up stock 7 or 8 blade fan. Now the air flows is awesome - and you can feel it - and hear it. Those two electric fans do not move enough air, at least for my HEMI. Now I have no trouble - with over heating, unless I am pulling a long hill on a 90 degree day.

Hey Dane

i 'm staying with the original fan and using these electric fans as pushers just for emergencies . stock rads cooling better then aluminum rads, never heard that or experienced that . when i built my 39 coupe with the 440 i couldn't keep it at temp till i installed an aluminum rad that fixed the problem , plus i have had pusher fans on aluminum rads and copper rads . the pusher fans brought the temp down a lot  quicker on aluminum rads .  :Twocents:

Physics can't lie. I was wrong about brass (but is stronger and can be thinner), but not copper - Copper is clearly better - Some info that I had to learn dealing with my cooling problems and dealing with the foundry I work with for my wings that knows his stuff on metals ...

Aluminium has it's outer electrons in the 3rd(M) shell .. Copper has it's in a 4th(N) shell - which is further from the nucleus (presumably) and so the electrostatic holding attraction is less for the copper electron .. making it more readily detached for conduction.

Also, copper has 18 electrons in the M shell(s) below it's conduction electron - pretty effective screening from the nucleus's attraction ... the Aluminium 3 have only 8 electrons in the L shell(s) below them .. much less screening.....
So, altogether, the aluminium electrons must require more energy to release them.☺

There may have been other reasons for your problems - I would read articles on actual tests. The only reason aluminum has been used is for light weight and it is cheaper for mass production in new cars - the imports started it. Conductivity is the issue and Copper is a better conductors than aluminum, plus aluminum has to be thicker to make it stronger, also taking up more room creating less air flow. I'm not saying aluminum Rad's are BAD, but they are not better. Also, those fans are the same fans I used (total 1800 CFN at the most), and my stock fan at idle moved WAY more air than those will turned on. Plus, putting pushers on the other side actually becomes a restriction of air flow and become a drag at low idle unless they move more air than your pulling fan on idle. More CFM of air is you friend - If I am cooling down 713 HP with a 3 core stock rad with a 100% of the time lock up stock fan - it is hard to beat that - I was stuck in traffic in the middle of summer last year in down town Portland on I5 for an hour and did not over heat. But then again - whatever works for you - can't be beat :)
