hi all! I bought this duel idler geardrive the other day and I'm alittle unclear on how it goes.
the intstruction have no pictures. and I don't quite understand some things. maybe someone can help me out here.
I'm unclear on the round lock plate goes on. it says to bend it up. ok. how am I supossed to do that. it just says bend the plate. if anybody has any pics, or better explanation of install, I'd love to hear it. thanks all!

I assume it is a 3 bolt lock plate for the cam bolts , usually there are slots in the lock plate so the tabs cam be bent against the bolts to prevent them loosening

hi! thanks. yeah I figured that the way it went. but I wanted to be sure.
would you know what to torque the bolts down to?
and one more question. can you get away without a timing cover gasket? and use rtv sealent or somthing? just asking cause the gasket come in a kit. & I have everything else already. except that 1 gasket. thanks again!!!

H.C.: I can't begin to tell you how much of a mistake it is to put one of those pieces of junk in your car. I've been dealing with these cars since they were new, and I can honestly say that EVERY one of those duel idler gear drives that others have used has failed.

They are a junk version of the high precision (expensive) single idler gear drives, but because the machining and precision components of the single idler drives is expensive, the rip-off portion of the aftermarket invented the duels.

Buy a good chain set and you will be way ahead in precision and durability.

Do what you want, but remember this, if you use the duel idler gear drive, .... I told you so!

That just made my decision not to get one.  Dang! I wanted one but can't afford the single gear like Milodon or whatever.

Glad I read this.  I had heard poor things about the dual gear setup but mostly it just said it wasn't as accurate as the single. I really just wanted the noise anyways, but not at the cost of a failing part eventually.

What is your opinion on the single gear drives and do you have a preference on which manufacturer you would use for one.  In case I hit the lotto in the next couple weeks and can all of a sudden afford one before I tear it apart to do my cam change.

Thanks

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I have the Milodon single gear drive and believe me, its a little louder than what I wanted.   :rotz:

Here's an example from inside the car!

hmm...now that I think about it. if a gear were to fail I'd be stuck. itd probably jump time so hard. might bend some stuff up even. unlike my double roller I have sitting in a box. its got 2 rows of teeth. so if it did chip a tooth it might still be running till I could replace it.
anywho, ya I didn't really put to much thought into what would happen if a cheap geardrive were to fail. mabey ill go back to double roller action.
does anyone know what to torque the three camshaft/timing gear bolt to?
thanks everybody for there feedback.

Chryco Psycho

you can torque the 3 bolts to 20-25lbs , use locktite
