383 rebuild

Hi, I have a 66 383 2bbl engine from a monaco to go in my 69 charger, How much should I expect to pay to have have a shop rebuild it?Also does anyone know of a shop in s.e. lower mich that they might reccomend to do the work?Thanks

Hi, just did one last year. My friends and I removed and disassembled it. Machine shop was almost $1500.  , New pistons, valves, pushrods , fuel pump, oil pump, ectr. ign. w/distb, harm balcr, belts, and every other thing another$1500,  and I'm sure it was more than that by almost $1,000. The engine was reassembled and installed by us, the only labor was machine shop. Good luck and it took 3 months so be patient!!

machine shop work depends a lot on how much you are having done, and prices are fluctuating a lot it seems.
The 383 lock is for lack of a better term bulletproof...support it with good bottom end components (forged steel crank, I or H-beam rods, good forged pistons, and you have something that can handle 1000HP (after about 600 I'd definitely suggest strengthening the mains (add two bolts). There are stroker kits for there to boost the cubes to 426. Spend your money on a good solid bottom end, and the majority of the rest on the heads, that's where most of your power is made and the foundation/building block for everything else you do.

I am going to have to pay close to $2000 to get my 318 rebuilt. That is with everything though including head work.
