How do you build braided steel lines?

I've seen braided hoses and AN fittings in some catalogs and was wondering what they're all about. I must admit I have no clue on what these are. Do you buy the braided hose in specific lengths and does it come with fittings you attach whatever adapter you need? Or do you cut these hoses to length and then somehow attach the fittings. Any good tech articles or websites I could read up on to gain more knowledge on this subject? I'm trying to fab something up for an aux trans cooler.

Most speed shops have braided line.
They sell it by the foot and then you can cut to the desired length.
It's about five dollers a foot so be sure of how much you need.
The speed shop will also have the fittings you'll need.
I had a hard time placeing the fittings on the hose because when I cut the hose the braided steel would come unwound.
I ended up useing a hose clamp around the line, then cutting the line with a cut off wheel. slide the clamp back just enough to place the fitting on the line.
After having said all that, you could just have the shop do it for you.

If you tape the hose before you cut it, then it wont fray.
