so i have been watching the prices sky rocket again and i was wondering, is this going to affect the prices of chargers?  i have heard of a few classic car owners who actually drive theirs that are saying they are considering selling it for something that wont bankrupt them,  also anyone hear any word about gas prices going down? or god forbid (gulp)  going up?

thanks.

Shakey

If anyone needs to sell their car because the gas prices are too high, they probably aren't in a financial position to own a muscle car in the first place.

I don't think that the gas prices should affect prices of our cars. Back in the 80's when gas prices went high people sold their musclecars because they were their daily drivers. Today our cars are usally not daily drivers, they are more of a leisure car. If someone today drives a classic car daily it's because they have money and they drive these cars because they want to not have to.

You lot dont know how lucky you are with gas prices in the US, here in the UK its nearly £1 ($2) a litre. To fill my charger up would cost nearly $200.

That is nutz! Most of the price is taxes? I am just assuming.

Here in Australia it's $1.36 per litre for premium. It has gone higher.

That's why I recently converted to L.P.G (Liquified Petroleum Gas) for highway driving. I can switch between the L.P.G and petrol whenever I want, but here's the best thing.....L.P.G is only 50 cents per litre.

I recently drove an 8 1/2 hour trip in my 71 Superbee for less than what it would cost to run my 4 cylinder Mitsubishi Lancer.

There is also another thread on/off this subject.  It's mainly a price check but it has been dormant for a while.  It's interesting to see the fluctuations throughout the US and other Countries.

What cheeses me off is the fact that I can drive for an hour on the highway and see a price difference of as much as $0.10 per litre.
Usually, it's only as bad as 3 to 5 cents but I've seen it at 10 - and it's the same company!

Heck, I've seen price differences within a single town - on the same street even --- stations closer to the highway - higher prices.
They get the gas from the same truck - but they charge more for the convenience.

Maybe their expenses are higher in terms of property etc. but they are likely doing a lot more business and getting a better price on their fuel deliveries. So, it should be a wash - or close to it.
And they likely do a lot more add-on business - snacks, food, coffee, etc... and they make stinkloads of profit on that stuff.

My Brother in-law is a lead hand on a oil rig in Edmonton and was telling me that next week they are ramping back to 20% production from 80% due to the lack of demand in fosil fuels right now. Right now gas here in T.Bay, Ontario is $1.06 per liter and one liter is approximatly 1/4 U.S. Gal. And I agree with the above, don't drive a muscle car is gas prices are going to be a problem!

According to the news:
"Iran's decision appeared to indicate no speedy end to the dispute which has stoked Middle East tensions, already heightened over concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions, and sent shockwaves through oil markets."

I agree with Shakey but for another reason as well. I figured out that buying a car to get better gas mileage wasn't the greatest idea. First of all, I'd have a payment. Second I'd be paying interest. Third my insurance premiums would go up. Assuming I doubled my gas mileage it would have taken about 10 years to just break even. I decided I'd stick with the gas guzzlers for a while. The interesting part is that my Barracuda gets better mileage than any other car that I own. I have gotten as much as 23 mpg (by comparison a Hemi Ram gets 11-13, Hemi Magnum with the cylinder shut-down thingy gets 18-20, a Camry gets somewhere around 24, a Scion or Civic gets 30, and only hybrids get 40+). My Chargers *might* actually make it to double digits but I'll drive them any way.

I heard that prices are going up so fast the last week or so because of 15 british soldiers that were captured by Iran while attempting to inspect a cargo ship for weapons and are being held captive, making oil investors nervous. just what I heard.

When I buy a car or truck, the LAST thing I worry about is the gas milage. If I want it, I'm going to get it, period.

pretty much like shakey said if your worried about the gas prices, or cant afford to drive a muscle car then you shouldnt have one to begin with let face it their not so great when it comes to mpg but my guess is that not too many of us drive them everyday.

my daily driver is a 4 cylinder Honda Civic and when I am paying over $30 to fill the tank that is ridiculous.  I am paying $3.25 and that is on base which is about .10 cheaper than out in town.

Its about $3.35 per gallon at the name brand stations around Fresno lately. You can find it at Vons & Costco for abt 15 cents cheaper, but it is starting to make me crazy. It wont keep me from driving my old guzzlers (only occasionally anyway) but even my daily 80 mile commute in my little Saturn is starting to hurt a bit...

That's cool, and I have been looking into a similar deal, but the problem here is that Propane is about $1.00 per litre here and it is only 75% as efficient as gasoline.  Natural gas is even less efficient.  That makes both more expensive than either gasoline or diesel for me. >:(

Big Lebowski

Enjoy the $3.35 a gallon while it lasts. The "Kyoto" treaty eco terrorists along with the Iranians would like to see our gas reach $10 a gallon :RantExplode:

I've heard that Propane over there is pretty expensive.

As a matter of fact, the L.P.G we use over here is a blend of Propane and mainly Butane. It has a little more kick to it and is a specialised automotive fuel. Whilst on the long drive in my Charger recently I noticed a slight drop in performance on steep hills, but that was it. It was certainly worth it to pay only about $10 per 60 miles.

Like I said, out here at the moment it's only around 50 cents per litre, and can get as low as 45 with certain discounts you can get.

And the best bit......our Federal Government has an initiative at the moment where they actually want people to convert to L.P.G for the environment. They actually refund $2000 to the cost of an L.P.G installation. The average one costs about $2,700 for a new system, so people only end up paying $700.
