Those have been around in Europe for years!  They are perfect if you are a city dweller and live not far from where you work.

Not practical for me, as my squadron is 45 miles from my house.

I've always thought the whole "roll cage on wheels" idea was good.

However, someone sent me a series of pictures a few weeks ago that shows a Smart vs SEMI nose to nose and it isn't pretty.

True, not much would survive a head-on collission with a semi, but they removed the driver of the Smart in two separate pieces.

Pretty nasty pics. I was surprised they were even taken let alone got out into distribution on the 'net.

In these days manufacturers (especially in Europe) is competing who will have better crash test rating. Most of them have 5 stars, different crushing zones etc. But from this video it seems obvious that in higher speed human body can not take that heavy impact (at least not average body). So, is this ratings good commercial trick? No doubt that passengers have better chance to survive in higher stars ratings but...

By making the car so small that the passenger compartment becomes the crumple zone, you've got to expect some grievous injuries. :scratchchin:

Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable in a car like that on anything but downtown type city streets.  ::)

Forget taking that thing on any road with more than a 35 mph speed limit. :brickwall:

The Smart is a nice car... we have had them down here for now maybe 4 or 5 years, but imported... is a good car for the purpouse was designed

I just bought one.


It was cheaper then a factory Spare tire for my Charger, So I put one of those in my trunk  :icon_smile_big: :P
