Just got done with our 3 week 440 rebuild. Have some problems though. About ten seconds after the moter is running and oil pressure rises, I hear this " shuk....shuk....shuk. I feel the vibrations of this sound on the distributor. I pulled the distributor and it spins freely. I looked down at the cam and oil pump gears and they look fine. I did not put a new oil pump on. The oil pump did have some damage to it from metal pieces but still looked ok. Could this be the oil pump? Also, I have a 383 I picked up recently as a back up motor. Does the 383 bolt in to my motor mounts? It is an original 400 Charger.

It could very well be the oil pump seizing. Why would you not install a new oil pump on a fresh engine....especially one that had pre-existing damage ? I would pull the pump and install a new one along with a new oil pump drive.  :Twocents:
