You got to wonder. Nascar claims that all the changes to the car have everything to do with making the car safer for the drivers but you got to ask yourself...What happens when the car gets in a major wreck and those flimsy looking wings go flying off the car? What kind of a projectile damage could that cause to the other drivers behind the wrecked cars???
I still think that wing is being put on that car to try to attract more of the rice burner fans to the sport. I think Nascar see's more $ there and just want a piece of that now. They Probably figure that if they make the car look more like those ugly fart can cars instead of a basic American looking car, that more of those kids will want to watch the thing.
Just an opinion.
What do you guys think?

Lizard, you may have a point.  But, Those cars haven't resembled anything that the factories put on the street for soooo long that I don't really think it's much of an issue.   Bob

My dad said he heard that NASCAR was going to have a semi load of rear wings to replace one destroyed in crashes.

As far as the rear wing & ricers... I agree.

They might now with that hideous looking wing on it. At least as far as the Toyotas are concerned...lol
If anything, Imagine all the pride all those ricerboys are going to have now when they put those ugly things on there cars and proudly try to claim "Well if Nascar uses them...It must make my fart can car work better"...lol

Didn't Nascar ban the wings in 71 because  they said that the daytona and superbirds were winning all the races because the wing created an unfair advantage making the car more aerodynamic?  With tha being said, it is definately a way to get the ricers in the sport.  The writing on the wall was made when they brought in Toyota.

I think it is a joke too. The cars are slower with them on..............whoops forgot the want the field to slow down so toyota has a chance. :pity:

They are pretty tough to look at. :rotz: Almost seems like a bunch of Subaru's are riding around the track. I think the pace car even has one. Just another shot at separating themselves from the "core" fans that got them this far. Before you know it, there will be points races in Japan. ;)

Couldn't agree more. Well said. I gave up on NASCAR years ago.  :rotz: :icon_smile_angry:

The COT is supposed to level the field and save everyone money, yet everyone has to build and maintain thier regular fleet of cars this year PLUS the COT cars   :shruggy:   (and its ass-ugly).

Nascar is whitewashing the sport into oblivion for the old race fans. Pretty soon it will be like a year long IROC event. It's more popular than ever and folks are getting dirty rich from it, so don't expect Nascar to stop until all the cars look the same, finish on the same lap, and all the drivers look and act like propper GQ models.  Pretty soon Fox will have text-message voting to give points to your favorite dreamy driver.

Turn off the TV and support the local short track where they still do some real racing !
