Gear Vendors unit from Year One!

I'm going to bite the bullet and order a gear vendors unit for the Charger.  Year One has them listed at less than the direct pricing on the Gear Vendor web site.  The Y/O catalog does not list these units as "discount exempt".  If that's true, with my latest discount and spending more than $1,000.00 I could get 20% off.  The savings could just about pay for the exhaust mods I'll have to do to accomadate the unit.  I always thought that these things were "discount exempt".  Just wondering if I've missed something.   Bob

Hey Bob.  Remember this thread.
http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,24783.0.html

Don't know if you can get it any cheaper thru Y1 but if you read my responses in this thread you can see my experiences.  True, like TTI, vendors aren't suppose to deviate from their set price but for some reason Ziggs doesn't have a problem manipulating it.  If you try Ziggs, talk to Mike.  He told me that if I didn't win another auction they had going, they would still shoot me a smokin' deal.

Thanks to dkn1997 with above thread I'm saving $375 and am able to rebuild a different tranny so I can retire the #'s tranny.  ;)

See what the aging process does for you!  That thread is less than two months old and I forgot all about it.  I'll look into Ziggs and call Y/O tomorrow.  Where is Ziggs located?  Thanks, Bob

You're gonna LOVE that GV OD! It's going to be the best money you spend on your car. Good luck, if you have any questions just send me a PM, I'll try to help you out. Is your car a 4 speed or auto?

Ziggs is approximately 20 miles southwest of Portland in Newberg.

Getting old's not all it's cracked up to be.  I forget that I even have a memory.  ;)

How'd you do Bob?  I emailed Mike @ Ziggs to remind him of the conversation we had, anxious to see if he's still honoring it?

I have the GV unit also... money WELL spent, trust me on this.

Mike, I've been sidetracked a few days.  I did find out that Y/O exempts the units from discounts.  Do you have a number for Zigg's?  I can't find anything on them on the net.   Thanks,  Bob

Translation: we will discount everything....except the good shit that everyone wants.  Just like when the automakers do cash back and other promotions.  "excludes corvette....500, mustang....viper....."

I see they're doing another BIN, but the price is $295 more than the one dkn1997 initially posted and $120 more than I paid.  Their help line number is 503-277-2232.  The order number is 1-800-288-7260, ask for Mike.
Even at the BIN price, it's $200 cheaper than any other vendor.

OK, it's ordered from Ziggs!!!!  Couldn't do any better than the advertised 2,295.00.  He did through in the shipping for only 25.00.  Y/O would have wanted 250.00 probably.  Now the wait.  Only about a week.   Thanks Guys,   Bob

Right-on Bob!

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get the Overdrive any cheaper than that.  The group buy was $2200, but that was the end of '05.  For $2320, you did good.  What gears are you running?

Make sure Ziggs or better yet call Gear Vendors direct 800-999-9555 ext 54 Rick to check that they get the right angle adapter for your speedo cable to go in the Overdrive.  Mine isn't right, Ziggs apparently told them the wrong model.  Rick is a great guy, actually everyone I've talked to there has been top notch.
Any questions, let me know.  I can't use the dimmer switch that manually kicks off the OD, instead Rick's sending a switch that mounts on the shifter.

8WHEELER is thinking about getting into the GV as well.  We'll all have no excuse for not going on road trips this summer.

Thanks again Mike.  I just called Rick and he's making sure I get the right adaptor.  I'm also getting the B&M handle for my shifter that has their button in it.  Nice Guy.   Bob

OK guys, I finally have some time to do the install.  Question:  where did you mount your electronics, both the auto/manual selector switch and the 'black box'?  Also I got the shifter handle button controller in lieu of the foot switch.  Any ideas on a clean installation of the wire coming out of the shifter handle?   Thanks, Bob

Call me whacky, but all of these questions right there are the things that I want to know about before committing to buy the GV OD.   :icon_smile_cool:

I love the whole idea fo what it does.  I just worry about how it will all look.

*watches thread for replies*  Pics would be awesome.

Bump!!!!  I've got the unit installed and am ready to wire it up and get the driveshaft shortened.  Only issue is the speedometer thingy dosen't want to seat all the way into the housing.  I'll call Gear Vendors tomorrow on that one.   Bob

Hey Bob.
My contol module is zip tied to the steering column using the available holes on the unit.  The control unit is velcroed under the dash temporarily until I move it inside the console.
I don't use the dimmer switch override, can't use it, feet no work.  I haven't sent the adapter for the speedo back yet so I don't have the shifter mount override, can't help you on that one.

I will clean up the module area some more as well.

I see ranger_max bought the unit as well.   8WHEELER was talking about buying a set up too.

I guess maybe we should have tried to get a group purchase going and maybe everyone could have saved a buck or two or at least more than what we paid.  :ahum:

RECHRGD

Thanks Mike, I never thought about the steering column.  They suggest putting the black box behind the kick panel but I do not think there's enough space there.  All other ideas are welcome!!  I hope to have it buttoned up by next weekend and then get the exhaust redone.  I hope I don't lose too much power by getting rid of the X pipe arrangement.   Bob

Bob, why not move the x-pipe back instead of deleting it ? Should be easy enough for any muffler shop to do !  ;)

HMMMMmm, well I guess your right.  Is it just as affective being anywhere before the mufflers?  I've just always seen the X pretty much right after the headers.   Bob

Bob, moving it back won't make any difference, inmo. The X will still scavange the cylinders and help with breathing. I would still try to keep it as close to the collecter as possible but don't worry too much about it.  ;)
