BTW, if you missed my hello post, I'm a Previous owner of a Hemi Charger 500 4 speed (green on green, no console), 1968 Hemi/727 Charger R/T (white w/black top & interior), and 4 SuperBirds (440 4bbl/727 lemon twist, 440 4bbl/727 limelight converted to 426 Hemi, 440 6bbl/4speed lemontwist and 440 4bbl/727 torred) along with my brother, Bill.  We owned several other hi-po MoPars, and attended the 78 WW meet in Calif, 78 NHOA meet in Denver, and the 80 WW meet in Baltimore.  I'll post photos as I get time, and give you what I remember about the cars.

The one with the Rallye wheels is Pete Haldiman's car.  It was in Automobile Quartertly, and I think, Street Machine magazine back in the olden days.

Bought my first 'Bird in 74, sold my last in 83.  "Back in the olden days" is fairly accurate, Doug.

I was going to say that I recognize that red HEMI 500 with the black vinyl top.

So is that your green HEMI 500 in the photo's as well? I see 2 other 500's in the one photo'.

As far as the 3rd photo with the HEMI 500 with the red front rims, a good looking car as well.

learical1

No, didn't have the 500 in 78.  Drove the "Hemi" 'Bird to the 78 meet, and to the 79 NHOA meet.  I believe I bought the 500 in 80.
Bruce

69_500

Ah I see.

So what color was your HEMI 500 then just curious? Seems to be an awful lot of them in F8 green, as well as R4 red. Those seem to be the most popular colors for HEMI 500's that I've seen. Then again there are plenty of bronze HEMI 500's too, with quite a few being T5 and some T7

I'll post more, along with details, later, but here's the beast.

Redbird

Bruce,

I still own the Tor Red Superbird I bought from your brother in '79. The stuffing was coming out of the seats because they were cracked from the Phoenix sun when I drove it home. I have some pictures of you and your brother in the driveway in Phoenix. I know the green Superbird is in the drive too, I can't remember if the Corvair you had for sale is in the pictures also. I brought that Superbird to Bonneville and went 173 MPH with the original 65,000 mile motor, decided to put that motor in the garage (wisely). Later went 198 MPH in the car with a max wedge. I still have the old Arizona license plates. There was a picture of the car at Bonneville in Popular Hot Rodding in the '80s with my dad next to it, and a small picture in Hot Rod. I've been told a magazine in Japan had a large picture of it. Galen

learical1

Ah, yes, 440 4bbl bench seat 727 column shift.  I put a set of 67 closed chamber 440 heads along with a Edelbrock CH4B manifold on that. (Found a 17th lifter in the valley when I took the manifold off.)
Bruce

Redbird

Bruce,

I still have the slots on my trailer. You wanted $100 more for a set of rallye wheels, I couldn't afford that. The broadcast sheets show it was a 14" Magnum 500 car. CH4B sold long ago. Still have the chrome valve covers you put on. The heads were open chamber, still sitting on the block. Someone had the original radiator worked on, radiator shop tag on it. You bought a stereo too, have the receipt for that, I think it was under the seat. I was in college, I went down to pick it up New Years weekend. About 3 hours before I got on the plane I was laid off from my drafting job at an engineering firm, they lost their big contract with the World Bank. Had just enough money for tuition when I got back. Slept in Sky Harbor airport before you picked me up there to save money.

learical1

I remember putting the original, open chamber heads (and 4bbl manifold :icon_smile_question:) in the trunk when you took it. But, 28 years ago, I could be wrong. ??? I had the radiator fixed at AZ radiator exchange when the 'Bird started overheating.
Bruce

Redbird

There was a second set of heads, the '67s. They were the ones that went in the trunk. In fact they are still in my parents' garage. I'd completely forgotten about them.

69_500

Everytime I read something like this thread I'm reminded more and more how small the wing car community is. Seems everyone knows everyone, and has had some relationship with them at some time over the years.

You've had a set of 67 Closed Chambered heads since 1979 that you "completely forgotten about"?  I'm not say anything bad about MY memory again! :icon_smile_big:
Good thing you and I started posting, or those heads may have been lost for another 28 years!  lol
Bruce

69_500

So he misplaced a set of heads, for my entire lifetime. OH wait does that show my age? Wait a second I was a year old in 1979 so not all of my life.

That wouldn't be the first time I've heard that comment. usually was coming out of my dads mouth when I was little, as he was yelling at kids cutting through the backyard, by all the cars.
