Anyone use those parts CDs that can be found on EBay?

Are they any good? or should I get the book instead. I know with my JetSki I bought the Service Manual on CD and anytime I was working on a particular area I would just print it out for handy reference. This also made me less concerned about getting my greasy fingers on the page since I could always reprint it. What I am concerned with with the B body parts CD is that the image quality may not be there. I already complain about the Service Manual I bought and its lack of good image quality. When I look at a buddy of mines original Service Manual that actually has shades of grey it is 100 times better than mine. Especially when your looking at details that may not have large pictures. Anyway, I am just concerned that the CD maybe be even worse since it is most likely a scan of a repo copy of the parts book and not a original.

Any one shed some insight?

p.s. if anyone has a spare copy of the CD that they want to part with that would be great too!!

I have the book also and usually photocopy pages for the garage.  I was somewhat disapointed with the quality when I received mine also.

I have pondered the CD, mostly so I would not have to post questions every few days asking if "someone knows what the Mopar number is for XXXXX".  I figured I could load the CD onto my laptop in the office and have the information handy through the week while I have constant access to the www.

I'd also be interested in a copy.  Perhaps we could pool our money with others and burn a few for each other here on the site?  If we get enough folks interested the cost could be minimal.  I am working on a '69 Charger.

Oh, attached is a screen shot I got from "who knows where" and it looks like the quality is not that much better, but I am sure you cold zoom in for a slightly better look.

Ya that looks as crappy as my book......you would think if these manuals arer "Licensed Reproductions" that the printing companies could have gotten some of the origianl data and not simply scanned a book off the shelf. And even if they did I know with my $80 scanner I can make better copies than the ones in the book. They are just black and white and you need shades of grey in order to get the detail.

I am all for am "group buy" on the CD.

I was going to bid on this one

But since the price was so cheap I was a little leary

Can the data be uploadad onto the net? If so, I would be happy to host it and then anyone here can download and burn a copy for free.

DC_1

If I get a copy I would be glad to zip it up and send it to ya to host Jim.

Thanks to everybody made us able to download it!

Ghoste

This file would be the same as the factory parts catalog, is that correct?

DC_1

I already downloaded it....Looks like it Ghoste.

Man they sure could used better resolution! They scanned everything in black and white so the image quality is quite poor. Its better than nothing though!

I am going to keep my eye out for an original parts book on FleBay. If I get one I think one of my winter projects would be to rescan the whole manual to a better resolution.

What would be good is if a bunch of us who have scanners got to gether and bought a manual and each took 100 pages to scan. It would be done in no time and it would reduce the cost of buying the book dramatically

Ghoste

I have one but it isn't loose leaf so it doesn't scan well.  I have a few different years of parts catalogs so I'm covered that way and I don't mind looking up numbers when I can.  If this was a different type of part listing, then I'd have downloaded it just to add to the obsessive collection.
