Iowa DNR has been denying that they are here for years.  I have had friends that live out near Harlan in the western part of the state that has seen them in person.  They are here and will always be....

yes, you will see moutain lions in iowa and throughout the midwest. they love the livestock. if you see one, and you are unarmed, run

Yes, because running from them won't spark their primal instinct to chase and kill things. :icon_smile_big:
Uhhh...yeah. Running wouldn't be a good idea. You'd do a better job defending yourself by just standing there & sh#tting your pants. :icon_smile_tongue:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

we have some that walk around here in southeast kansas....hundreds of reports go into the officials every year and every year we get the same answer "there are no mountain lions in kansas"  i have heard them scream before when me and my buddy were checking out an old dodge truck next to a barn.....it scared the shit out of us!
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

12-gauge 00-buck or .300 mag will fix that.

Panther are endagered. So I guess some jail time will fix that. Am I the only one who is in aww of the pics?

if there is a cat that big, that close to my kids.....jail time seems like a very small price to pay

Panther? That's odd, all I see is a cougar in the picture and cougars are anything but endangered. :shruggy: Pop! Pop!

he is a beautiful cat though ( i read the snopes article).  We have coyotes here that love to eat our pets...let one get a hold of my dog and it will wish it hadn't.  I bring my dog in every night, but if I forget too....he lets me know that they are around...barking his damn head off......did actually see one the other night...kinda scary, but not too worried...we tons of bunnies hopping around so they got enough food for a while.

I think that wood on the deck is sun wood.........that cat needs to be relocated or killed, for it has lost its fear of humans, probably a young male who has been driven out of a older dominate male's territory which is very large.........

now tell me, why should it be kill'd? just because you don't like it? but I like how you also said Relocated in your reply also because to me the kill part was the other choice from relocated. But just think though your the cat and don't know where your at and you walk up on a patio at night when its dark out and look through the window and see afew kids playing wouldn't you look to? and then when a parent comes out even with a camera wouldn't you try to figure it out whats going on before you spilt city and if you knew that it was a camera as the person was taking a photo of ya od you on the patio heck yea say cheese! LOL

To me I would be spook also seeing that cat on my patio.

I didn't say i don't like big cats, so just keep making stuff up in your head about what big cats are like and what there about and then get educated by showing pictures of this animal to a game department officer or specialist of these animals and you will see I'm not to far off on my suggestions for that is what happened at our tree farm.
A 150 pound mountain lion bit the head off of a blue healer to get him off of his leash that he was attached to on the neighbors porch and drug him into the bushes about 100 feet from the nearby house.  The neighbors never herd the dog bark or the attack, they thought our dogs got him when they found the leash and collar still attached to the porch with a trail of blood leading away from the house.  We called the game department for i was almost attacked by a cougar the same year hunting and i was suspicious of a mountain loin.  The game department found the remains of the dog just about 20 feet in the brush from the house.  two game department officers and my Dad stood by the dog as they spotted the cougar crouched only about 50 feet away watching over his prey and was not afraid of the humans in the vicinity.  The Officer had time to go back to his truck and got his rifle and shot the cat because he said once big cats start coming arrround houses they loose there fear of humans because of either there is no more big game to hunt, deer, elk, or he has been driven out of the area because of another older dominate male cat has driven him off.
I hunt and don't like the idea of killing anything if I'm not going to eat it and i don't hunt mountain lion, even now I wont lower my gun and shot at one unless it wants to attack me and I had to do it once and it was only 20 feet away before it was about to jump on me, and because of my fear of what was happing i missed, and I tell you, you don't want these big cats that are not afraid to come around your house near you or your family........and its sad because yes they were here first, but there also not indangered animal and proably to expensive to relocate them most of the time......so unless we humans stop having baby's there gonna loose more and more of there territory or will just be on there menu :D

P.S.  I have a picture of the puma on a Polaroid i will post of the animal, it was a very large young cat, game department said he was about 4 years old and largest they had ever seen at that age.....

Nice kitty...that reminds me of a story my sister would tell.  She had major bear problems one summer and everytime she turned around there was a bear in the garbage.  She finally decided to feed the bear a big bag of prunes so she put them where he would find them.  The next couple of days later they disappeared and a while later she was talking to her neighbor who was also having the same problem only, the neighbor was now all upset cause the bear came over and crapped all over her porch. :icon_smile_big:

LargerCharger383

the scary part about that is usually once a wild animal gets that close to a building, it won't be so afraid or shy anymore and will likely do it again and again until.....

We have pretty much built on thier homes. They are running out of space. They have to eat and live like we do. We are no better. We are just different species.

there has been two confirmed mountain lion sightings around my area.  One was in Ottawa, KS just 10 miles east of me, the cat was sneaking up on a 10 year old girl playing basketball when the neighbor drove up and found it crouched on the ground.  Scared it off.  Second was in NW Missouri where they caught pictures of the cat on a guys motion sensor camera that he had put up to find deer, this was on the news.

Both reasons are why I have a lever action 30/30 to kill the thing the first time I see it.  Mountain Lions need to stay in the mountains for all I care.  No way will I let one near my family without a minimum of 3 rounds in its chest, period.  Its them or me and by God it will be them, no ands, ifs or buts about it.

Yes and no. While it's true that some of their habitat has been encroached upon, there are many instances where the environmentalists are shooting themselves in the foot by banning hunting or certain types of hunting. They think they're being humane and yet their short-sighted political agendas are causing more problems for the animals than they solve. But hey, as long as it makes you feel good that no one is shooting them to keep the population manageable there's always disease, starvation and rival killings that do the same.

timmy

kill it u dont need to have that around little kids

I probably wouldn't shoot it at first sight but if it were to go after my family or me ,endangered or not, it's dead.

Are you a Vegan?  because if you aren't then we can pretty much discredit anything you say, for if you do not kill animals by your hand you still allow other to do so for you, and there for you are a killer, accept by others doing it for you, you can wash your hands of the guilt.......and yes I feel more of A HUMAN when I hunt and kill for my meat..........

So you're saying that humans should never be allowed to participate in the natural process? It's ok for a cougar to kill deer and elk or another cougar or even a human but it's not ok for a human to kill a cougar?

Yea, well, if it comes down to me or that "pure as the wind driven snow" poor innocent endangered kitty, I know which one us will accidentally get shot and buried in the back 40 without anyone ever hearing about it (hint, it wont be me) I've got a tractor and I know how to use it...We have them here in the mountains above central Ca., hardly ever see them, but we do hear their distinctive cries at night now and then. One got one of our sheep a couple years ago (made a real mess about it) Survival of the fittest I say, they leave me alone, I do the same, they threaten me or my family?  They get what they deserve.
