hi - anybody live in South Carolina - i am thinking about moving from new york to south carolina - i am getting tired of the cold winters - can't take them anymore - i am looking into summerville south carolina - the house prices are pretty decent and taxes seem to be low - looks like the weather is warmer and can work on my charger.  would need to find a job near charleston - probably - not sure how the job outlook is in south carolina - any recommendation would help  - thanks

Charleston, SC in my opinion, is one of America's best kept secrets.  I've been down there probably 20 times in past 3 years and enjoy it every time.  The city is beautiful, clean the architecture is amazing and the people are nice.  The downtown area is a perfect size whereas you can walk anywhere you'll need to go.  The downside, it is expensive.  The only thing that would keep me from moving to Charleston, for starters I am a Canadian citizen and I can't just pack up and move to the United States, but even if I could I'd take the sweltering humidity in the summer into consideration.  It can be brutal.

You're off to a good start by researching the area before you make a move such as this.  Start digging deeper and find out about the economy, schools and taxes and other things that will affect your day-to-day life..

Keep us up to date and good luck.

I live near Rock Hill which is just below Charlotte.  The lower part of the state is a very pretty place to be near.  Compared to housing prices up north, I could see the market down there being more affordable, but the housing market there is over priced.  I had a friend move down there near summerville and in about 4 years he doubled the price of his house and SOLD it.  It is Extremely humid down there like Shakey said, even in Summerville which is a litte bit inland, that too would keep me from moving there. But there are a million things to do down there, lots of things to see, lot of history down there.

But it is hot... hot... hot...

Dont get me wrong, it is hot everywhere in south carolina, but the lower part of the state doesn't ever get snow. maybe once every 5-10 years.  The nice thing about where I am is that you do get some snow (sometimes we get hardly any though) and you could work on your Charger without a garage even almost anytime (this year we only got really cold for a few weeks)
