Can't we all just get along???

We are united here by a common love of all things Charger.

We should all respect any Charger - regardless of engine size, restoration status, or running condition.

To me, America means individual freedom & tolerance!!

Oh and man I love those General Lee jumps every year.  Those ROCK too!

Neal

Hmmmm. I will retract my comment about a load of asses. I am sure not all GL clone owners are.

Pictures of gnrl01's Charger from where he started to where it is today makes me happy that he and others like him brought the car back from the dead. It is a GL clone and my least favorite Charger in existence but a Charger was saved.

On to Neal_J comment above in which he states : " We should all respect any Charger - regardless of engine size, restoration status, or running condition. Shortly followed by the comment : "Oh and man I love those General Lee jumps every year." Where's your respect now Neal? You are not a Charger fan in my book. Maybe a Dukes of Hazzard fan but clearly not a Charger fan.

If anyone enjoys seeing a Charger wrecked in the media or at a staged event then they are an ass in my opinion. That opinion will never change!
Malicious, vindictive, spiteful, cynical, pessimistic, sarcastic, & antagonistic. And those are my good traits!

Thanks for the props guys here are some more for ya....

The biggest thing some of you people don't understand is that everybody I have seen that has a General Lee CLONE seems to LOVE to have fun with em.

Hey John Schneider has one of those General Lee clones, if you get a chance see if you can race him, ya better have a SERIOUS car and be a VERY good driver, because Schneider's "ugly orange car with a tan interior" packs a SERIOUS kick! AND Schneider can drive it! That car is SERIOUSLY fast and WILL go around a corner!

The unfortunate thing is that you seldom see the real thing because the owners feel the need to keep em under lock and key.  The worst part is that some people just don't understand what it is like to truly enjoy your car.

Get a grip, it's JUST a paint job and a set of wheels! Get your own car and build it YOUR way and let these guys be, most everyone I have spent any time around are great people who just like to enjoy their cars!

I guess I am wrong as well, if I buy another 69 Charger, it's gonna be a Dirty mary Crazy Larry replica, just because that is my favorite TV/Movie car EVER!! I've always wanted one.

I thought the WHOLE reason to own these cars was to enjoy them, I own a 66 and a 73, I will tell you right now, I'm gonna build them the way I want em, if you don't like it, too bad.
So some guy wnats a General Lee Replica. I'm cool with it. If they are having fun with their cars, more power to em.

I feel sorry for the guys who have several really NICE cars, but are afraid to drive them, because they are "too valuable!".  Date coded this and numbers matching that, lots of money in something that is basically a conversation piece.  I like Bill Weiman's approach (He's the guy with all the HemiCuda convertibles) they are musclecars, DRIVE EM like Musclecars!!!!

I get a kick out of watching Mike on BullRun thrashing Mr Angry! It's a MUSCLECAR!!!!!!!

Cool pics, thanks for sharing!

Yeah I agree. That is bull... So I suppose everyone who has a black 68 Charger is an ass too, because its a "Bullitt" clone and they destroyed that car in the movie too. :scratchchin: ::)

Someone called me an ass? Me never.  :D

I remind you sir, that my Charger is not a clone, it is a non R/T 2X black from the factory. If people say "hey look at the Bullitt clone" I will give them and ear full.

It's a special order car that was made in 67 before the movie was ever in production.

It's discrimination I tellz yeah.   ;D

Man, I'm sitting here with a lump in my throat because I'm eating my words about General Lee's  (after seeing the father and son pics together).  Anything a father and son can enjoy together is priceless.  If a car can bring people together like that :icon_smile_big: I don't care if you build a Flintstone mobile out of a Charger  ;) ;) ;). - as long as it was rough when it started out  hee hee hee  :icon_smile_cool: :icon_smile_cool: :icon_smile_cool:

Wow, someone who doesn't have a General Lee finally gets it......just because we have a General Lee doesn't mean we like the jumping & trashing of Chargers or that we are asses.

I understand your opinion, but I respectfully disagree.  My point is simply that if someone chooses to jump & crash their rust-bucket car, that's their choice to make.  In the same way, it's their choice to make as to whether to restore to stock, make a GL or create a clone.  As I said above, it's entirely about freedom and individual choice.

And as long as they continue to crash 'em, lotsa folks (& I) willl be watching on YouTube.  Yee hawww!!

NASCAR crashed Chargers by the ton in the old days.  So did the various drag racing classes.  So did Trans Am racing.  All these forms of old racing involved buying the most prized & sought-after collector musclecars and then hacking them up to fender-bash them to death.  (Hell, at least DOH smashed up mostly automatic 318/383 cars!)

So which forms of Charger-smashing are the "good ones?"

It's still just an opinion.
Personally, I've met A LOT of charger-lovers who never once went to a 1960s NASCAR or T/A or drag race event, but they sure saw a lot of DOH on telelvision as a kid.

Ghoste

I don't think it's entirely accurate to say those old forms of racing involved buying the most prized and sought after collector musclecars.  They were new then and almost worthless and the only reason they were created in the first place was to win races.  The reason there are only 9 Hemi Cuda convertibles from 1971 is because nobody wanted them.  Since there are still 9, is it okay to smash 8? 9? 1?  What if one of those cars was a rustbucket, then it would be okay to finish it off even if it were a valuable rustbucket right?  Bill Wieman owns most of them so it would be his free choice and right to take them all out in a field and blow them up.
I respect your opinion too Neal but just because the numbers are higher in the carline we're discussing doesn't justify it in my opinion.  Even the fake Hemi 71 vert they destroyed for  Nash Bridges was a senseless act IMO.  Ultimately, I think those of us who are against destroying old cars for kicks will be proven right, but sadly it won't happen until it's too late.   It's just like someone points out whenever we gripe about the costs of even project cars today, there were a finite number made and some are lost forever each year.

:iagree: I couldn't agree more Ghoste. Thank god someone else get's it!

I agree that smashing ANY Charger costs us something.  I just don't agree that smashing them in the media is "worthless."
I just don't think you guys realize what an impact these Hollywood portrayals still have on these cars.

"Grindhouse" is just a bunch of dead Chargers to us.  I get it.  But that's because WE are already into the old car hobby with years of well-formed opinions.  And we're way past the age of being heavily influenced by stuff in movies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back in the early 1980s, I'm sure there were a lot of grown men in the Mopar hobby who didn't think DOH would have much positive influence on Chargers in the long-run.  They wouldn't have cared about the wrecked cars in those days, but let's suppose they HAD known about the future Charger supply running low . . . could you have EVER convinced them that such a dopey TV show for grade-school kids would eventually cause 600+ restored orange Chargers over 25 years later?

Of course not.  They would only have seen the real tangible cars they were LOSING on television show at the time, and they would have never been able to imagine the influence & eventual cars saved/regained because of it in the long run.

Ghoste

An interesting counterpoint Mike.  I'm not sure I agree with you but I have to admit it makes me think.
