I need to remove the chrome trim that goes around the tailight lenses.  The chrome trim goes through holes in the light bucket and seems to be glued in.  Is there an easy way to remove the glue on trim without breaking the tabs?  Can you melt the glue or something?

Also, whats a good way to clean an old original washer bottle?  Mine has turned brown.

If I had my taillights here I could give you a better answer but I don't so I'll have to guess.  If the trim is glued on you can try, carefully, to heat it up with a hairdryer.  The heat should loosen the glue enough to remove it.  Just as you would remove a bumpersticker.

Regular vinegar should work in cleaning the washer bottle but I wouldn't expect to get them back in mint condition.  Bleach might work and other potent cleaners.  You can try soaking it for a while and see what results that brings.  Using a scrubpad or fine steelwool with vinegar or bleach or whatever you choose to use will help it clean better but if you make scratches in the plastic then the washer bottle won't stay clean for very long.  I think it might be easier to buy a repro bottle, unless you want to keep your original.

I've done this recently, when the light is out of the car you will see the trim ends that have the hole in the center, coming through that is the post on the trim put a flathead srewdriver under the trim as close to the hole as possible. turn or twist the srewdriver gently and the trim should slide right off.  I have not broke a post yet. I used Seal All to glue it back together after chroming. (thanks Chris G!)  :icon_smile_big:

John, What's this "Seal All" and where did you get it? Have a picture of it?

Seal all is a good all purpose gas and oil resistant adhesive. It is sold at auto parts stores in the area that glues/sealers/rear view mirror glue is kept. yellow tube black and red script. Sorry no pic.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
