ok being a wife/mother of three with a hubby who is a mopar freak and in the Navy gone all the time.....i have to say that I say the same things to my husband...When he is home it seems all he ever wants to do is work on the car, be on e-bay looking for parts or on here talking to ya'll, or on Sundays he is on the couch all morning watching Musclecar and all those shows.  I hate it, but I know that it is his down time.  I just want a little time spent on me...without the car stuff.  It is hard because we have 3 kids (8, 5, and 1 1/2), no babysitters and little money.  I have no patience to wait for anything...and i hate being second best.  Which is what I feel about the car...i am second best.  the only thing that is saving us is the fact that now I am a part of this board, and am a muscle car fan myself (although not sure that mopars are my first choice....sorry boys).

Just let your wife know that you do love her...show her some love and affection and give her some...I am sure things will get better.  Konig...dude one more month and you'll have her hormones and a new baby screaming all the time to deal with, live it up now......it's hell for at least the next 4-6 months!!!! LOL  Sorry dude!

there is a guy in my town, I keep trying to get him on this site.  He has a 71 Challenger he is restoring.  I met him because his garage was open, I saw the Challenger and stopped to talk to him, He was not home but his wife went out to the garage and told me what she knew about the car.  I was impressed and could only imagine my wife, at car shows she can't even tell anyone what year my cars are.  Anyway, for Christmas his wife surprised him and bought a 70 Charger GL,  Solid car.  Shoot, she is even attractive!  I would mary a ugly woman if she would buy me a Charger :icon_smile_big:

My wife could answer a lot of questions about mopars, at least until it gets into the smaller details. She easily knows the differences between models and years .. She is my first choice, no question..... and I would not trade her for ANY car''A guy ame into my space a few years ago asking about plug wires, when asked what year she told him orange for 1972 and later , black early 1972 and older. he was floored, needless to say he bought a set of wires.Of course she wouldn't be able to answer how far back the yellow lettering was applicable to , but given time she even be able toi answer this I believe

Hate to say it, but from my experience, you can NEVER make a woman like that happy, EVER unless you sell the cars and computer. I went through that with my ex-wife. I sold 2 rare Chargers and 1 Ramcharger 4x4 4spd. cause of her. NEVER AGAIN, my kids & my cars will come first from now on (and my girlfriend knows it). AND BEFORE YOU LADY'S SAY "THAT'S WRONG", there are a lot of women out there that feel the same way about cars as I do, like my current girlfriend. My current girlfriend totally loves cars, has told me she rather have me be super into cars them smoking, drinking, or drugs (said that to me), and already has insisted me to do things that most women would leave guys over (seriously). She told me I was stupid for selling the other Chargers, and she will never tell me to sell anything. She told me that if she would of been me, she would of told my ex to pack her bags. She also understands that collector cars are a commitment and investment. I'm not saying that I will not stop working on the cars to do something with my girlfriend and or be at her side if wanted and or needed, because I will be there for her. She also told me that she would NEVER tell me to be any other way. She said she will always support me for who I am and what I do. And that is my point. If your woman is not going to support you for who you are, and what your about, then time to move on. Cause if there is no support from her, and it is all about her, it will never work out. I have learned that if you want to be in the car hobby, you need to find a mate that is also into to it as bad as you are, like I did.

I guess im lucky. I met my wife on the same block when we were kids. She always wanted to check out my cars when I drove by. She had a Nova then and I had the Charger and a few others. We both love cars. I have been out in the garage almost every nite for like 5 months. Every once in a while we go out somewhere. I built a garage a few years ago and she said she would be upset if I wasn't utilizing it so I am out there all the time. She works full time and started going to college at night to upgrade her position so we can but more muscle cars. I just finished her Cutlass last year so she's happier than hell. I guess I got a rare breed :icon_smile_big:

There's a balance that has to happen between 2 people in order for a relationship to work. If there is none, then it's doomed from the beginning. My wife doesn't have much interest in cars, but doesn't dislike them. She's into music & has that as her hobby, so we each have our own thing. Her thing is playing bluegrass, collecting a few vintage instruments, & performing live music, & I have my cars. We both share time doing the other's hobby, like camping at bluegrass festivals & going to a weekend car show & swap meet. If I spent every spare moment on my cars & did nothing else, she'd probably get annoyed. But it works both ways. If she ignored me & made her music a full time passion, I'd feel left out & also get annoyed.

We both saw friends of ours get married & divorced, & 2 of those couples were never on the same page to begin with. Couple #1 consisted of my best friend, who liked to stay home, tinker on the house, & was the practical, or frugal type. His wife loved to travel, buy expensive clothes, & show off. She called him from the other side of the country one day from a trip to CA & said she wasn't coming home. Couple #2 was another close friend who had a '66 Tempest ragtop, a '69 Chevelle SS, & a Harley. His wife decided that after 2 years the furniture looked old & they had to redecorate. The Harley got sold, they bought new furniture, & she started seeing another guy a year later. There's other people I know with similar stories, but you get my point.

I'm glad that my wife & I can share things even if neither of us have any big interest in the other's hobby. Like I stated, she isn't interested in cars, but on a similar note, I actually don't like bluegrass music, I just tolerate it. It's all about give & take. I could have a Hemi in one of my cars, but instead, I bought a bigger camping trailer so we can go places together as a family, like the bluegrass festivals. She suggested I make the garage bigger when I designed it, & she also said it needed a second floor for storage. It seems like some people, or in some cases, the wife would never understand the need of more space in a garage, but in this case my wife was aware of something that I needed.

Maybe you need to re-examine the time you spend, or don't spend with your spouse & be honest with yourself whether you're selfish or not. If you are sincerely trying & the other person doesn't see it, then talk. If that doesn't work, then it might not ever. Good luck.

So you're other interests is beer and cigarettes? Your wife is right, you are a dork. Maybe try doing something nice for her once in a while instead of worrying about yourself. A good start would be to get in shape and make her moan in a good way rather than sitting around stinking like cigarettes and working on your beer gut as a hobby.

I do the same thing...If the garage is open and someone asks I have all the info hardcopied into my brain.  Even if the garage isn't open and I have the maitenance guy come to fix stuff we always get on the subject of cars and I always open the garage and show "my" car.  LOL  Hubby hates when I say that.  I love going to all the car shows...I dress pretty nicely (if you know what I mean).  I don't have any problems showing off my knowledge of cars if you're not a dick to me about it.  I was a mechanic before I met my husband and have done about the same amount of work on the charger as him.  I am more in the wiring/electrical stuff than the engine stuff, but I love it..being there and getting dirty.

Hey Mojo, bit off topic but shouldn't it be: Oderint, dum metuant? Why replace the u's with a v? Accius, right? I'm doing a class on roman tragic poet/play writers. Dunno if you actually got it out of one of the tragedies, but you should look into it. They actually have a pretty strong message.

Arthur

yeah, that's Accius, but I was trying to quote Caligula, from Suetonius' "Lives of the Twelve Caesars".. Caligula said "I scorn their hatred, if they do but fear me" - but I could only find Accius' quote in Latin.
"I spent most of my money on cars, birds, and booze. The rest I squandered." - George Best

I looked through my books but the only mention I have of "I scorn their hatred, if they do but fear me" is as wrong translation of "Oderint, dum metuant". Appearantly the two get mixed up a lot even though they are not even from the same person. "Let them hate, so long they fear" ("Oderint, dum metuant") is by Accius, but was the motto of Caligula, the "I scorn their hatred, if they do but fear me" was a quote by him. Sorry can't be of any more help, talking about plays. I read the comedy by Niccolò Machiavelli - La mandràgola, should be available in english as well, it's something I think you would enjoy. If I know you a little bit, I'm sure you'll agree on his tactics as how to influence man, use them in order to get what you want.

ok being a wife/mother of three with a hubby who is a mopar freak and in the Navy gone all the time.....i have to say that I say the same things to my husband...When he is home it seems all he ever wants to do is work on the car, be on e-bay looking for parts or on here talking to ya'll, or on Sundays he is on the couch all morning watching Musclecar and all those shows.

:blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah:
Ditch the woman you have now and go to a Moapr show & find a Mopar Mama !  Life is to short.:Twocents:

;D Ditto! As you can see by this board, we are around. Though, I do agree with Chargerwife alot. Especially, with a pregnancy. When your child grows up, they will base thier interactions with thier spouse according to how Mom and Dad  treated each other.  Koni, your wife may also be concerned with the relationship you may have with your child because alot of your time is spent wrenching on the car. Please stop smoking at least for your unborn child's sake You are your child's role model and hero. They think that everything you do is cool and correct when they are little. You are thier world. They learn everything from you. I work with children and adolesents. they tell me alot about thier upbringing. Just because they may not tell you something, it doesn't mean it isn't there. I apologize if this post came off as a lecture. I'm just sharing my experience.   Funny thing is that my husband feels second best to my cars. I do alot of things. Any of my spare time is used on the cars. Especailly the Charger, considering it neds a resto and alot of TLC.

Chargerwife, you should have some musclecars of your own too!! Especially if you were a mechanic before you had met your husband. If you don't mind me asking, how come you are no longer a mechanic? I used to be one also. I have never met another woman who was a mechanic before. Your awesome!!!!  :icon_smile_approve:

Well, you never met me either. LOL I wrenched on cars and worked in a body shop before I ever started bartending. As far as the car hobby. Involve your family. It can be a great time to spend together. If your wife and kids don't like helping with the car, maybe they will enjoy the car shows and cruise-ins. My daughter goes with me. She loves cleaning the Chally up for the shows. You could have a much worse hobby. Sitting in bar rooms, cheating, drugs, etc. At least when your in the garage she knows where you are at.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

71ChallengeHer

And if I had a man that loved Mopars as much as I did, I'd be right beside him, getting dirty.

Maybe a PM would be in order here. :D

WT__I no longer a mechanic because I hated doing it.  Plus guys don't think I know anything (I am a blonde, or at least was) so whatever.  I had a 73 Chally, but we sold it.  I am waiting for us to finish the charger before we buy/start another project.  Money is a big issue here.  We make none and muscle cars eat it up.....  Thanks for saying I am awesome...More woman need to be mechanics...teach you guys a few things, huh...LOL  We are teaching our girls to get on them wrenches too.  They can name all the tools in garage correctly.

I had a wife once and my Mopars took a backseat for awhile with having a son, house , marriage , job, etc. but then she wanted to go bar hopping  and drinking . I stopped drinking when we got married so she went alone ( with her sisters lol) Well, needless to say while I was at home raising my son and working on my Mopars ( which I started doing again when she went out),she was doing some other guy.Long story short, my son stayed with me and I gave her the boot.As far as your kids doing what you do, in most cases I guess that's true but my son is now 17 and he is not as Mopar crazy as his dad but he loves his Charger. He doesn't drink or do drugs.I smoke but I have always told him how bad it was and he never wanted to.So sometimes if you tell them and not preach about it , they do listen.
If I ever find a woman that loves Mopars as much as me I would live with her but I would never marry again.
