THE COLONEL

Well, as I was ice skating with my son the other day, and as I went to turn around on my skates and skate backwards to watch him, my skate fell in a rut. I went flying landing on my wirst. I found out yesterday morning I broke my wrist on my right hand. They say is it a bone that heals slowly, so I may even need surgerey, plus have a cast for up to three months, so just keep me in your prayers. I will keep ya'll posted.  Right before curise season too.....this sucks!! :flame:

You'll recover soon.  Just don't try to do anything before it's time and stay with the rehab regimen.  I say this cause being in the military you tend to hide certain things if you are an Aircrewman so they don't down you and you can't fly.  I'm paying for numerous such things right now after 20 years.

You'll be ok, hang in there.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I'm sure you'll be out cruising in no time.   :drive:

Take care and enjoy the rehab on the wrist. I broke both of mine in a motorcycle accident and the therapy is brutal!

You need a prayer for a broken wrist? :P

Is that like thanking God that your team won the Superbowl?

Take Calcium and Vitamin D.  It will help you heal. I know. That's what the doc's had me take when I  had my foot reattached in a car accident.  It took a year before I could walk on it. But listen to your Doc.

BMOTOXSTAR

I broke mine after a bad crash in a Motocross race, both wrists to be exact. I flipped and rolled with my arms under my body, I broke my leg & knee (tibia) on the same accident. My left wrist bothers me to this day. If the doc wants pins and it is your choice, get pins. The pins will really help with arthritis. I did not listen and had the choice of pins or not on another part of my body that I broke in a different race and I am really paying for it 8 years later. I have busted many a bone and I can tell you that it f-ing hurts like a g-d--- so nof a f-ing muther f-----.
Trying to sleep was the worst. When I broke the wrists I could only get an hour of sleep at a time then wake up with the pain, could not roll over or lay on them, could only sleep in 2 positions, what a pain!  :flame:
I know what you are going through, it is scary but in time you will heal and it will pass. I hate the hospital and it is scary.

Thanks for the well wishes guys.  I got back from the doctor today and Your prayers did me good. Thanks! I do not need surgery, and the cast should only be one for 6 weeks, as long as it heals well. It should come off in the first two weeks of May! Yeah, no cast for summer with the kids, and Dukesfest, Chryslers in Carlisle, Hair Dare Dukes Day in Canada...etc, etc, etc.....!!!!!!!!!

I could not imagine what some of you have gone through from your stories.  This is more of an incovience to me with four kids, and I thought over summer just watching them play without me.....well, it would have torn me apart.  But anyway, all is good for now.  By the way, the cast is black to match The Colonel's color scheme. :icon_smile_big: ;)

Broc, was it on a street or Motocrss bike? I have to give it up, Motocross racing, this year. I crashed real bad the end of last season and I still can't walk correctly ! :rotz:
Might have to go back in and have my knee pins checked & re-done. Man that is going to hurt !

 To answer your question:

i was riding out at the beach what we call here the Great Highway, where we used to race before they put in all the stop lights and curves and stuff,..
So, I'm riding along at approx. 25 MPH when this young girl probably about 6 or 7 years old walks her bike across the road directly in my path without a care in the world about ten feet in front of me. I had just enuff time to turn the wheel and hit the brakes,.. well the bike (a cherry YAMAHA 150 trail bike) changed direction but the sand on the street was like ice and i went right into a parked car without slowing and the bike stopped dead.
I flew about 25 feet over the car in slow motion, I might add, kinda like "The Dude" in the Big Labowski... i did a half roll and landed on both wrists... I, in some amount of consternation, watched the sand and pebbles enter my shoulder and arm, a completly engrossing sight and a painless sensation at 1/10th normal speed...
I tried to get up but my wrists wouldn't cooperate,.. the little girls dad came running to where we were and grabbed her and her bike in each hand and along with the mom sprinted to their red Ford Explorer and burned rubber getting out of there...
I don't think they so much as glanced in my direction.
A minute or thirty three later a paramedic arrived and informed me i was in shock. i remember watching the jets from SFO  flying over head heading out over the Pacific. A  pretty surrealistic experiance.
I resolved to never ride a motorcycle or my ten-speed in san francisco again as a result of this pointless near death experiance.
I have riden the 10-speed alittle since but i sold the 150 a few weeks later.
the drugs were great but the removal of the debris from my left arm and shoulder was a lot less than a comfortable experiance.

  Well, You asked..  :-\
