Im trying to choose what kind of carb im gonna fit on my modified/restored 440.

Im stroking it to 511" and putting in this cam:  DCC-4120235  BBM HYD CAM KIT 284/.484"

I have automatic transmission.

im gonna drive this car dayly in the summer...and want the engine to have good endurance...

Im thinking about putting in 850 speed demon (mechanical secondaries), what is your opinion...am i doing the right thing ? Should i go for Vacuum secondaries ? and if so...why ?

Pls advice me  ;)

That is the same cam that I am taking out of my car.  It produces low vacuum.  I guess if vacuum is not a concern then my comment doesn't matter, just wanted you to be aware.

Carb.....I'm thinking more along the lines of the Holley 870 Street Avenger myself.

The engine Gods will be along to help you out though I'm sure.

Can't help you much on the carb cause I run a 383 with a Holley 750 HP.

I bet Ron will suggest a holley though. :icon_smile_big:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

I'm planning a 512 myself, what heads are you going to run, one thing i've been told is those big cubes like big cams & big carbs, the 850 speed demon will work good, that cam doesn't seem like the best choice, a bit small for that much engine, there are much better profiles out there, i would get a custom grind.

Chryco Psycho

I generally use the Holley 950 cfm HP carb on th e500+ " engines

This year im keeping the heads as is. I assume it is the stock heads (yes i aam a newbe :-[). Next year im planning to put in B1 heads and a bigger cam to go along, but right now the budget looks best with this and i was told to rebuild the enigne bottom up instead of doing the top, so i gotta be a little patient here :)
If the cam produces low vacuum is it then right to asume that the mechanical secondaries is the right choice ?
Will low vacuum affect the tranny ?
