Can someone explain to me what exactly a slapstick transmission is? Does it just allow you to go from park to reverse without pushing any buttons, reverse to drive without pushing any buttons, but then prevents you from accidentally going from drive to reverse? Is there more to it, like a performance aspect?

You can be in first gear and "slap" it into second.  It wont go past second until you "slap" it again, the same going into drive.  Its pretty neat really.  Fun to drive for sure.   :yesnod:

I left that part out. I thought it was like kicking it into overdrive manually. But I guess you can actually up shift?

Ghoste

It's a marketing nickname that Chrysler gave to a "ratcheting" style shifter that they brought out in 1970.  It prevents you from shifting from 1st into neutral by forcing the shifter mechanism through a series of little "gates".  It's kind of a poor mans B&M, if you will and it's actually pretty effective.
