i plan on buying a set of 84cc eddy alum heads and was wondering what roller rockers were designed to work with them? i was told that all stud mounted or shaft mounted rocker will work. can you use stud mounted rockers on the eddy heads? Which brand should i plan on using, crane, harland sharp, comp cams. What pushrod lenth for a stock 440 factory deck heigth. and lastly i have a 66' 440 with closed chamber heads what was the factory cc on the heads in 66' and will 84cc kill my compression ratio?

Thanks everyone for any help, i know alot of people here are running eddy heads.

All Mopar BB heads use a shaft rocker arm system....no studs. As for roller rockers....the big question is why ? The ductile iron rockers are plenty for just about any flat tappet cam...solid or hydraulic. They will also last forever and are bullet proof. The only reason to run a roller rocker would be to accomodate a solid roller cam that will be seeing 6500+ rpm and heavy spring loads. For that type of application you need to step up to a fully rolerized rocker arm....both on the tip and fulcrum. Harland Sharp, Jesel and T&D are the rockers you should be looking at.  :yesnod:

hey ron,

i thought the eddy heads could run either a shaft or stud rockers?
as for the cam i was kind of playing with the idea of a roller hydraulic so it would idle nice but still have good power up to about 6200rpm. will this work? probly crane cam #689521 the 284/292 dur .509/.528 lift will tis idel fairly smooth with the hydraulic lifters?
i know your one of the best when it comes to your mopar engines and cams so thanks for the help.

Nope, the E-heads are definately a shaft rocker arm design.  :yesnod:

That Crane hydraulic roller would idle similar to the MP 284 hydraulic flat tappet cam...both have 284* advertised duration. The Crane should make more power though with the faster valve opening and increased lift.  ;)

ok thanks ron. how do you set the valve lash with the adjustable valve train and hydraulic lifters? since if you adjust to zero lash, once the lifters fill with oil it would leave the valves open right? thanks again for the help.

Cali,

Every Hydraulic lifter manufacturer will have it's own spec for lifter preload....most of the time it's .020-.040 that is recommended. Preload is different from lash in that you want to push the plunger slightly into the lifter body to "preload" the hydraulic lifter as opposed to leaving clearance between the rocker arm and valve tip (lash) which is what is required on a solid lifter cam...whether it's flat tappet or roller.

So, to set preload ; you simply set the lash to zero and turn the adjuster 1/2-3/4 of a turn and that's it....as the adjuster is turned it depresses the lifter plunger. This must be done with the lifter on the heel (base) of the cam for each respective lobe.

The manufacturer will have a specific preload measurement for their lifter which you need to follow for best results. Hope that helps explain the difference between preload and lash.

You're welcome Cali. Here's a handy chart you should print off for setting the valves.  :icon_smile_big:
