I have hooker comps on my 73 /440 Charger. I have clearenced them for the PS and my Eddy heads. They have decent ground clearence and am happy with them except that they are painted black and bake the engine compartment in traffic. I have seen companys that can coat them for about $200 . They are about a year old and in good shape.

Anyone done this? recomendations?

typically headers can come with the option of ceramic coating, they are usually 1-200 dollars more.

expect to add 3/16-1/4" of material all around each tube, and it does help with moving the heat out of the engine compartment.
I recommend this to people who have trouble and/or live in a very hot environment (Arizona, Death Valley, Las Vegas). Some issues like vapor lock can be cured this way, but honestly it should be a preventative or performance measure and is not necessary in most applications. to prevent vapor lock, or get cooler air into your intake alternatives can be reached for less money by routing your breather tube, and using insulation on your fuel line.

I have insulated the fuel lines and have a cold air intake system. That helped with the heat.

Coating my existing headers adds 1/4 inch to the outside of the header?

It will depend on the company, and what you pay for as for the minimum, maximum, or standard coating.
You will have to ask them for specifics, but it should net you a resultant 5-20 degree temp difference in the engine compartment.

I would recommend ceramic coating for performance, even for stock car it will help.

Jet Hot does good work and has a nice finish.  Don't have their contact info, but I believe it should be easy to find via a google search.

They did the coating (from the factory) on the headers on my Duster and 4 years and many hard miles later they still look great  :2thumbs:
